Diversity in Tech: Progress & the path ahead

Welcome to the first edition of mthree’s Diversity in Tech newsletter!

We’re thrilled to launch our newsletter following the release of our Diversity in Tech report.

Now in its fourth year, the report provides a comprehensive look at how the tech industry in the UK, US and Canada are evolving to embrace DEI.

From using data to shape recruitment strategies to leveraging remote work to broaden opportunities, this year’s findings reveal remarkable progress—and pressing challenges.?

The report is made up of six unique chapters.

In this month’s newsletter, we’re focusing on the findings from chapters 1 & 2: “Tech’s Increasing Diversity Efforts” & “The Role of Remote Working In Expanding Diversity”.

Key takeaways from chapter 1: Increasing diversity efforts

The report highlights areas of progress and several strategies that contribute towards success:

  • Progress in key areas: Across gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic diversity, employers in the UK, US and Canada are seeing improvements.
  • Awareness and understanding on the up: Businesses are increasingly equipped to address diversity challenges, with growing industry awareness and support enabling a shift from problem identification to actionable solutions.
  • Demographic data: Employers are using data to guide their recruitment strategies and track progress along the way (UK: 58%, US: 53%, Canada: 56%).
  • Embracing diversity in all its guises: Employers look beyond gender and ethnicity to monitor socio-economic diversity too.

Key takeaways from chapter 2: The role of remote work

The rise of flexible working models is transforming how companies attract and retain diverse talent.

  • Flexibility and diversity: Flexible working models help employers build diverse teams, according to the vast majority of leaders (UK: 89%, US: 86%, Canada: 90%).
  • Striking the balance: Employers must find the right balance between in office and remote work. Looking to build a hybrid working model? Take a look at some of the key factors you should consider for your business.
  • For young tech workers, hybrid working is a game changer: The overwhelming majority of Gen Z (UK: 96%, US: 94%, Canada: 98%) said they’ve benefited from flexible working arrangements.
