Global & Corporate Highlights:

  • Controversy continues to fuel US Elections: ?

Donald Trump recently repeated a baseless claim during a presidential debate, falsely accusing Haitian immigrants in Ohio of “eating household pets.” Haitian community leaders across the U.S. expressed fear that this inflammatory rhetoric could incite violence and deepen divisions, especially in Springfield, Ohio, where a growing Haitian population has boosted the local economy.

In a related controversy, GOP Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana faced backlash for a now-deleted social media post calling Haitian migrants “thugs.” Democratic leaders, including Rep. Steven Horsford, are pushing for a formal investigation into Higgins’ remarks.

We stand against harmful narratives that endanger marginalised communities. As the election season heats up, it’s more important than ever to foster respect and inclusion in our public discourse.

  • Women in STEM: Diversity Efforts Struggling Amid Budget Cuts

Support groups advocating for women in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) fields are facing significant challenges as corporate diversity budgets shrink. One such initiative, Ada Lovelace Day, a global celebration of women in STEM, is currently facing significant challenges. It’s important we all recognise the importance of sustained support for women in STEM. Diversity is essential to fostering innovation and growth in these fields.

  • Cash Seized from Criminals to Fund Community Projects Promoting Inclusion

In Merseyside, £100,000 seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) is being allocated to support projects that promote diversity, equality, and inclusion. Local organisations have been invited to apply for a share of the funds, which will be used to address recent incidents of violent disorder and enhance community cohesion. It’s great to see efforts like these that promote unity and inclusion, turning negative actions into opportunities for positive change.

Event Spotlight:

Join Us for an Empowering Black History Month Conversation: Reclaiming Our Voices

It all started in August 2024, when two strangers met at Isabella Mascarenhas’ incredible event. That chance encounter led to an enriching conversation and the spark of an idea to bring it to a wider audience. Now, we’re excited to invite you to a special event this Black History Month!

On October 17th at 6pm, join myself and Gardy Guiteau for a dynamic discussion on Reclaiming Our Voices as a Race. Together with a multi-generational panel of speakers, we’ll share stories from across the globe—UK, Germany, Haiti, America, and South Africa—and explore how we navigate and shape our own narratives in the West.

Our Panellists:

  • Tigest Belete – MA Literary Student, Goldsmiths
  • Gardy Guiteau – Founder & Principal, GJG Training and Consulting
  • Sharon Legae – PhD Candidate, King’s College London
  • Paul Riddell – Consultant, Axis HR Consulting

I, Grace Mosuro, will be your moderator for the evening.

Whether you’re an ally, advocate, or simply looking to deepen your understanding, this event will offer a space for education, empathy, and empowerment. Prepare to listen, learn, and engage in a conversation that will challenge and inspire you.

Please share this event with your networks and join us for what promises to be an insightful and impactful evening.?

It's nice to see that seized funds from drug busts will be allocated to the community.
