Diversity & Inclusion: We Call the Tune

When you're forming a symphony, it's not enough to just fill a room with different instruments. The magic is in knowing how to effectively harmonize their unique sounds to create a powerful piece of music.?

Likewise, when it comes to inclusion in the workplace, we must harness the diverse talents and perspectives in our teams to reach our ambitions together.?

Borealis is writing a new chapter in the story of plastics, through an advanced portfolio of sustainable products, leadership in innovation and global impact. We’re exploring technologies for sustainable polyolefin production and use, to protect our planet and future generations. To deliver on these ambitions, we need to leverage all the talent in our organization, to foster creativity and innovation, and to better reflect the communities we serve.

On International Women’s Day, I want to highlight how including and empowering women benefits our workplaces and reaffirms our commitment to a more inclusive and equitable society.

So, how are we doing this? Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) is an integral part of our People & Culture Strategy 2030. To measure our progress, we track several key metrics. For example, at the end of 2023, 31% of senior leadership roles were held by women, exceeding our 2030 target of 30%. We also have a strong succession pipeline in place, of which 23% are female,

These figures show that, while we are committed, we still have some way to go to hit all the right notes. It's up to each of us to drive change within our sphere of influence. This could look like promoting diversity in leadership positions, supporting women's professional development, or advocating for policies that promote gender equality in the workplace. But it can also be found in simple actions, like making sure everyone gets a turn to speak or calling out undesirable behavior.?

At Borealis, we recognize the impact of inclusion on decision-making, employee engagement, innovation and performance. We will continue to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and drive gender parity. There is work to do, but I am optimistic about the road ahead and grateful to the pioneers and change-makers who came before us.?
