Diversity-in-Technology
Thirty years in the technology industry, and the last fifteen years, I always tried to come to terms with why there are not more minorities in technology. In the past ten years, I have a clipping of news articles on the topic of diversity and initiatives. Corporations and individuals may have good intentions, but their lack of actions show weak results.
Documentation by McKinsey & Company, Diversity Database published to date, April 27, 2015, author, Vickie Elmer, outlined gender diversity improves financial performance by 15%, and ethnic diversity is improved by 35%.
The Los Angeles Times article brings up the point of diversity in technology. Is it because of the BLM movement? Probably. In either case, this is a thought-provoking read.
As a side-note, my son, who has his Ph.D. in math, recently told me he was accused of being "white-privileged." "Dad, I paid my way through college, still have debt, I work twice as hard as anyone in my group, and yes, I am paid well."
I did not have an answer, and our last name is "Medina." It is indeed a crazy world. Opinions are my own.
