Diversity and the Impact on Team Efficiency

Diversity and the Impact on Team Efficiency

In today’s working environment it has become more evident than ever that diversity has a huge impact on team efficiency.

Diversity in the workplace is not limited to race and culture alone. It is broad and includes areas such as gender, sexual orientation, language, religion, disabilities and generation gaps.

In my experience working in the corporate environment, some if not all of these diversities have impacted the way employees engage and interact with one another.

So how do we manage the many different ‘points of view’ of the individuals in your organisation?

We ensure that there is a conversation about the different issues individuals face.

Communication is vital to the success of a diverse team. As leaders, it is your responsibility to ensure that your employees understand diversity in the workplace and approach situations appropriately.

Diversity is not a weakness, but rather a strength and can benefit your organisation in many ways.

Your employees are likely to solve problems more effectively and creatively when individuals collaborate more efficiently.

There are some common attitudes towards diversity in the workplace. Most of which people aren’t aware of.

Generally, individuals have a conscious and unconscious bias towards certain things. These individuals need to be made aware of and accept that they hold these ‘preferences’.

It is expected that by 2025, 75% of the workforce will be Millennials.

As a result, if other generations struggle to adapt to the cultural changes in the workplace, employee effectiveness will decrease.

Leading Light Business Evolution works with organisations to recognise where these diversities lie.

Our programmes are structured so that individuals embrace their own and the diversities of others and ensure that there is an environment of inclusion rather than separation.

Transformation is a hot topic in South Africa and has added to the many challenges that businesses face.

Individuals in the workplace may be left feeling as if they are not included in the process and therefore not part of your team. A sense of ‘inclusion’ is important for employees and will impact how they deliver results.

We offer several customised programmes to assist teams, ranging from a 2 hour high-level programme at R899 per person to a 2-day interactive workshop at an investment of R4000 per person.

Learn to embrace the diversities within your organisation and reap the benefits of working together.
