Diversity is good for business.

Diversity is good for business.

And cross-generational communication skills translate to improved communication with everyone.

I talk a lot about the value of diversity within organizations. Did you know that businesses that employ people of different genders, ages, races, cultural backgrounds, languages, and national origins have a competitive advantage over those that don't?

A diverse team brings:

  • Innovative and creative problem-solving
  • Better decision-making
  • Greater employee engagement and retention
  • Elevated company reputation
  • Increased productivity and profitability

That means more money to your organization's bottom line!

My friend Carol Willis (founder of The Clapping Oak) and I have been collaborating on a project to help teams create improved cross-generational communication. We know that the skills that are applied, translate to better communication within ANY diverse group of people where differences and stereotypes can produce barriers to collaboration.

We currently have 4 generations comprising the majority of our workforce - Baby Boomers, Gen-X, Millennials, and Gen-Z. Did you know that Millennials are currently 35% (the majority) of our workforce and are rapidly moving into leadership roles? Each generation has communication styles and preferences unique to them. When colleagues are stereotyped and misunderstood, there is a breakdown in the flow of information and thus efficiency and productivity.

According to statistics, 57% of employees report not being given clear direction, and 69% of managers are uncomfortable communicating with employees. How do generational differences and stereotypes play a role in these situations? It is imperative that we learn how to better communicate across diversity in order to strengthen teams and create optimal results.

Join Carol and me for a free webinar on October 7th from 9:30 to 10:00 am (MT) where we will share the characteristics and communication preferences for each generation. You will leave with tips and strategies to overcome communication barriers and build a more effective team!
