Diversity Career Resources from the Tufts Career Center

Kristin Casasanto, Assistant Director of Employer Relations in the Tufts Career Center, offers an overview of just a few of the career resources available to students of diverse backgrounds.

A diverse and multicultural workforce focusing on understanding and appreciating employees’ differences strengthens the foundation of an organization. Many hiring organizations seek job candidates from under-represented groups for opens at their company. Thus, many career resources that have been developed for diverse job seekers, to assist in career development, networking, and the job search.

The Tufts Career Center provides career resources and information specific to various student populations. Here is just a sample of some of the resources we offer on our website for students and alumni: 

• Fall 2015 Diverse Opportunities Newsletter- Tufts Career Center’s quarterly newsletter, packed with career programs, new resources and upcoming scholarship, internship and fellowship deadlines
• INROADS and Sponsors for Educational Opportunities (SEO)- Organizations that provide internships and mentoring for students from diverse backgrounds; SEO also provides training for professionals interested in alternative investments
• EOP’s STEM Diversity Career Expos- Annual job fairs in Boston, New York City, Washington DC and other locations
• National Association of Asian American Professionals– Features job listings and professional development opportunities
• Asian American Journalists Association– Career events, scholarship and leadership programs
• Black Career Women’s Network- Career advice, a job database, and local networking groups

• One Day One Job Blog– Job search tips for international students; additional job search tips and articles available here
• Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)– Scholarships and career resources for students as well as professional development and networking opportunities for experienced workers
• LatPro – Connects Latinos and Spanish/Portuguese bilingual candidates to jobs nationally and internationally
• OutProfessionals – Networking events for professionals and students
• American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES)– Job board, scholarships and internships for students and professionals in STEM fields
• Native American Journalists Association (NAJA)– Fellowships, scholarships and an annual conference for students and professionals
