Book - Diversity Acrostic Poem - Working with Diversity & Developing Culturally Sensitive Practice in Social Work and Social Care.
?
The murder in broad daylight of an unarmed black man in the US, George Floyd in May 2020, stirred me to finally complete this book. The book pays tribute to George Floyd. My book is based on the Diversity Acrostic poem I produced in 2015. I created this poem by utilizing the word Diversity and reproducing phrases that best describe the act of working with diversity and becoming culturally sensitive. This book essentially elaborates on the poem and supports good Social work / Social care practice in this area. Through this book, I have lent my voice to the call for justice and equality, anti-oppressive / anti-discriminatory practice, and the embrace of diversity & inclusion in our Society. I have laid emphasis on racism and Black Lives Matter following the tense racial climate at the time of writing in the year 2020 /2021. The content of this book will help develop skills around cultural competence in Social Work. The premise is that racism is entrenched in our society be it conscious, unconscious, or institutional. It is only logical therefore that in trying to combat it, one must look at it from the perspective of impacting institutional learning.
The Diversity Acrostic Poem book is a useful, straightforward educational resource written not just for Social work & Social care staff, but also a useful resource for Government officials who formulate policies for citizens, including vulnerable citizens. The Poem creates useful reflective discourse around diversity and cultural competence which supports working with the vulnerable and less privileged in our society to make a meaningful difference. It will help readers to critically reflect and carry out a self-analysis to understand themselves better around the Equality Act 2010 protected characteristics.
Bearing in mind that social work and social care staff are very busy professionals, I have made this book succinct and to the point to make it a straightforward and easy read. Each dimension of the acrostic poem represents a chapter of the book and is introduced with a pictorial to further illustrate the chapter content.

One of the dimensions of the poem includes interesting personal anecdotes with elements of humour which I hope readers will find amusing yet educational. Just as this book begins with a long open letter to all re George Floyd, I have ended it with a brief letter to readers which I hope will further challenge readers.

My notion is:?"Let's not just talk about racism, let's do something about it".?The book is available to purchase from?https://vottraining.co.uk/
