Diversio at the United Nations, Tips on Understanding Intersectionality, and Hiring Excellence

?? Laura McGee at the United Nations

Our CEO, Laura McGee , had the honour of speaking at a United Nations event focused on reimagining the future of mental health, leadership, and wellbeing through AI, neuroscience, and global health.

This event brought together Kunal Sood, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, global leaders, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and global health scientists to discuss mental health and the planet's most urgent challenges in achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Laura played a pivotal role in planning and bringing this event to life.

Reflecting on this event, Laura shared a few words:

Quote from Laura McGee, Co-Founder and CEO of Diversio: “Mental health and well-being is something I've struggled with throughout my life and career. My experience is not unique. Data shows that 30% or more of employees struggle with a mental health condition like depression, anxiety, or PTSD. I was honoured to attend a round table at the UN on this topic, and very grateful to the clinicians, scientists, innovators and practitioners developing tangible and creative solutions to make lives a little bit easier. But we have a long way to go to reimagine a society that accepts, treats, and accommodates invisible conditions. This is a great step in that direction.”

?? How do you incorporate intersectionality into policies and procedures?

The challenge for many organizations is that standard policies may not account for the diverse needs of all employees, leading to inequitable outcomes.

Matt Stewart (he/him) , Senior Inclusive Leadership Facilitator at Diversio, recommends implementing three action steps:

  1. Regular Review Cycles: Implement regular reviews of policies with input from a diverse panel to ensure various intersectional identities are considered.
  2. Universal Design: Adopt a universal design approach to create inclusive environments that accommodate a wide range of needs without requiring individual accommodations for every scenario.
  3. Specific Adjustments: Allow flexibility in using statutory holidays to accommodate employees' cultural and religious practices.
