Diversify: May Newsletter
Hello everyone ??
May is here with a promise of warm sun rays, tiny flower buds, and friendly barbeques in the park. The long winter has finally come to an end and nature is turning green again. The flowers and trees slowly blossom with new life. And so, you too, should allow yourself to blossom again. Let the sun warm up your feet and brighten your smile. Let the spring rains bless your new intentions, and let nature lead you into a new season.
May is the month of celebrating diversity, mental health awareness, and women’s health care. It calls on us to be gentle with ourselves, allow ourselves to bloom together with nature, talk openly about mental health, while celebrating the beautiful diverse tapestry of human experiences.
May is also No Mow Month, which calls on people to refrain from mowing their lawns to let wildflowers bloom and create nectar for pollinators like bees, butterflies and moths, and even beetles.
The European Diversity Month aims to raise awareness about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and across our societies. It calls for organizations and companies across Europe to organize internal and external events focused on diversity throughout the month. However, we cannot stress enough on the importance of applying an intersectional and equity lens when talking about, planning for, designing, or practicing diversity and inclusion.
If you find yourself wondering how do we do that, make sure to join Diversify’s upcoming events in May. Our second panel discussion within the Blaze Inclusion Awards series will shine light on intersectionality within the context of the Nordics. Together with speakers from Iceland, Greenland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, we shall unpack how layers of our intersectional identities compound and create different modes of privilege or discrimination in a Nordic context.
At the end of the month, our monthly Diversity and Inclusion series will dig even deeper into the challenges within DEIB and address Anti-Blackness, not only in the workplace, but also in society. This important topic within DEIB is often overlooked and intentionally ignored as it makes us uncomfortable. Through this panel discussion, we offer you a chance to lean into your discomfort in a safe space.
Both these discussions will be held online and are free to attend.
With Love,
The Diversify Team
