Diversified's Rua'a Alkhal Attends Canadian Citizenship Ceremony

Yesterday was a very big day for Diversified’s Rua’a Alkhal. The Learning and Development Administrator in Fort McMurray has been waiting over a year for her results from her citizenship test and to complete the official ceremony. Due to COVID 19, everything was put on hold for quite some time, and the ceremonies are now conducted online.

She has been checking her account for over a year to see if her status had changed from “pending approval” to “approved”. The ceremony was finally scheduled for January 11, 2023.

“Everyone at Diversified Transportation would like to congratulate Rua’a Alkhal on receiving her long-awaited Canadian citizenship! Our country is built upon the contribution of each citizen, and you are now one of them! Congratulations!”

Pictured below is Rua’a standing near the Rainbow International Bridge near Niagara Falls, Ontario. That’s the bridge she used when she first crossed into Canada, beginning her path to citizenship.

Immigrating to Canada on her own, Rua’a tracked the long journey from Basra, Iraq, all the way to Fort McMurray in April 2016. Having never visited here and speaking little English, it was a big step to leave her family behind and begin a new life in a new country, but Rua’a has never backed down from a challenge.

Her first couple of months in Canada were certainly eventful as she was displaced soon after arriving due to the Fort McMurray wildfire, but she eventually settled down to call this place home. After a couple of years here with just her Aunt, her parents were able to join her, immigrating with her sister in July 2019. Lastly, her brothers, nieces and nephew arrived from Turkey in June of 2022 to complete her family’s journey to Canada.

Rua’a started as an Operations Assistant at DTL and moved to the Training Department in May of 2022. We are happy to have her and are pleased she could finally attend her Canadian Citizenship Ceremony!
