Diversified Hosts Fort McMurray High School Students for Annual “Tour of the Trades”

The following was submitted by Chris Thor – Shop Manager for the 120 and 920 shops in Fort McMurray.

I wanted to share a good news story about this week’s “Tour of the Trade, where local high school students got the opportunity to visit companies around town and momentarily get immersed in the Heavy Equipment Technician trade.

This is our second time hosting such an event and needless to say, it went off without a hitch.?We provided coveralls, safety glasses, donuts, Diversified swag, and most of all - experience. We set up 5 stations in total where the students spent 20 minutes per station with an assigned technician. All the students had an opportunity to rotate through all of the stations before they left.

The 5 stations were:

• Brake station – where they got to replace pads, adjust caliper, and install a tire
• Engine bay station – where they got to change a belt, check all fluids, and inspect for issues
• Diagnostic station – where they were able to diagnosis an induced fault with the laptop and follow the steps to find the failed sensor
• Oil change station – where the students were able to change the oil, replace filters, and re-fill engine oil
• Undercarriage inspection station – where the students went in the pit and were shown how to inspect brakes, steering, suspension, and powertrain??

I want to give special thanks to Stephanie, Sharon, and Jenna for helping organize the auditorium, PPE, and swag. Thank you to Wayne’s team, for cleaning the shop!

I also want to give a Big THANKS to the technicians at each station: Craig, Alain, Bunty, Richard, and Stu. You guys represented the company as professionals and great leaders!!

I am proud to have such a great team to work with that rises to all challenges and opportunities to shine.
