A diverse workplace is a thriving workplace
Is your recruitment process inclusive?
In support of #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek?we wanted to share thoughts on how to ensure you are supporting those with different needs.
A time to reflect on the best ways to support those who have different ways of approaching situations, learning and behaviours.
1 in 7 people in the UK are thought to fall somewhere on the neurodivergent spectrum. Neurodivergent individuals often face barriers & challenges in the workplace due to a lack of understanding and accommodations.
Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and Tourette's syndrome are ONLY a few that fall under the umbrella.
Situations like interviews and the first day of a new role can be difficult for everyone, but for neurodivergent individuals, this can be even more challenging and overwhelming.
Here are a few ways that you can make your recruitment process more inclusive...
? Don't judge a person based on their body language - people can be restless, and uneasy and find eye contact difficult. Give the person plenty of time to answer a question without applying pressure and try to be warm and relaxed.
? Keep workplace training up to date - invest in seminars and learning for current staff on topics involving neurodiversity.
? Accommodate - make your interview process flexible, allowing for things such as team interviews, telephone interviews, and longer time frames. Make the candidate feel comfortable and not interrogated.
? Appreciate - neurodivergent people may offer a completely different viewpoint to your business, they are an asset and should be celebrated!
A diverse workplace is a thriving workplace, so adapt to get the best people in the role!
That's why?#NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek?is so important!
