Diverse Panels Leads to Winning Team
At Applied Technology Services, we’re committed to cultivating a strong diverse and equalized work environment. Diversity is a key aspect that is threaded throughout our company culture. As a woman-owned, minority business, it’s the essence that founded ATS almost 20 years ago. We strive to ensure that our recruitment efforts appropriately reflect our current employees’ demographics. As we deliberated the winning strategy to utilize when bringing on a new employee, we’ve decided that having a diverse panel interview style would be the best approach to achieve inclusivity.
We’ve put together a selected group of employees to partake within the interview process. ATS has created a structured interview process that includes employees from different genders, ethnic groups, ages and other characteristics. Dependent upon the role, we could participate in several interview rounds. The first interview is a formal, standardized style with no more than 5 team members. The second interview is more of a casual, conversational style interview out at lunch with different members of leadership and a peer team member. This process allows our employees to know that we value their input and feedback across all levels of tenure and experience.
ATS is proud to think outside of the box for solutions to reduce the problematic effects of bias. By gaining a diverse group of perspectives, we’re minimizing the bias. The goal is to make a hiring selection that is focused on the factors that have a direct impact on performance of the job instead of what the person looks like. Overall, implementing this new hiring technique will bring awareness and improve hiring processes that will lead to significant business advantages.
