PostEurop is proud to launch the 2024 most beautiful EUROPA stamp competition, based on the theme “Underwater Flora & Fauna”. European underwater ecosystems are known for being a vibrant tapestry of flora and fauna which beautifully thrive in harmony. Whether from the multiple seas to the majestic North Atlantic, or from tranquil lakes of Scandinavia to the winding rivers of the Alps, Europe boasts a diverse array of freshwater life. Crystal-clear streams host a myriad of aquatic insects and fish, while dense reed beds provide sanctuary for birds and amphibians. Beneath the waves, ocean species such as oysters, clams, and certain species of marine worms serve as nature’s filtration system, actively purifying the surrounding seawater. This rich biodiversity forms the backbone of our freshwater habitats, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts.

This year’s EUROPA Stamps are more than just postage or collectible items—they’re windows into the mesmerizing underwater world of Europe. “The 2024 EUROPA Stamps – “Underwater Fauna & Flora” theme, depict the remarkable diversity of aquatic life in Europe’s oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and springs. Despite this richness, human activities such as water pollution and climate change have severely impacted aquatic biodiversity, leading to the loss of numerous species. In response, the European Union introduced the EU 2030 Biodiversity Strategy in 2020 to restore ecosystems affected by these challenges. We hope that this year’s theme will raise awareness on conservation efforts. Through exquisite designs depicting protected species, water lilies, and marine life, we aim to inspire collectors and enthusiasts to reflect on the importance of preserving our aquatic environments for future generations.” explains Agnieszka Trz?skowska, Chair of the PostEurop Stamps & Philately Working Group.

The online competition will end on 9 September 2024 and the winning stamps will be announced at the PostEurop General Assembly to be held in October 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia.
