Ditch The "Kids Menu."

We all want to look and feel our best. We buy the creams, get the treatments, do the things, buy the stuff. We get lured into diets because we just. Want. To be SKINNY. We believe thinness is the route to happiness.

I GET it. I feel so much better when I am able to run and jump and dance and play without pain and without huffing and puffing. And I also know the truth that no one wants to talk about.

In order to run and jump and dance and play (things I do on the daily), I have to WANT to do those things. My mental health is key--our BRAINS ARE our bodies! They NEED vital nutrients in order to function well. We've simply GOT to get our brains working well if we want to LIVE well, FEEL well, BE well.

So many of my students share that they were raised on Pop Tarts, cereal, hot dogs, Kraft Dinner, Pizza Pockets, chips & dip, chocolate, candy, pop, junk. "Children's foods" as they are called.

And yet, these foods are NOT food if we read the ingredients. What are we ACTUALLY feeding them? Those choices become habitual. Our kids' palates become accustomed to chemicals over food. Habits become formed over TIME. Many of them continue their junk food habits well into adulthood and have found themselves at this place where they've tried EVERY diet out there--all with dismal results. They can't sustain it, they go "off", they gain back all the weight they lost (plus more), and they are back at ground zero.

It is NO way to live and there is the SIMPLEST solution out there. We just need to believe it, do it and stick with it--long term. The nice thing? There is no "on or off". It just IS. Ready? The solution is to EAT REAL FOOD. That's it! And I totally GET how it seems too simple. And perhaps too hard. But across every culture on the planet, the healthiest people in the world are the ones who refuse to eat a diet filled with junk, processed foods. And I promise, it's easier than you think and the benefits are innumerable.

We have been duped, lied to, addicted and sickened. I firmly believe that if we get our food right, SO MUCH else in our lives falls into place. I am not saying food fixes everything--but a poor diet definitely damages everything.

Starting our kids off on the right foot is easier than we might think. And they WANT to learn! The parents in my program teach their children what they've learned and those kids now want to understand their food more. They are teaching their friends about sugar. They are paying more attention. They are raising their awareness and they are FEELING so much better.

With teen suicide, rates of depression and anxiety and the obesity epidemic climbing, the time is NOW to push back on food marketing and open a dialogue about what we will and won't tolerate in our diets. It's not about never eating sugar; it's about understanding natural versus processed sugar and it's about having eyes wide open in our lives.
