That Distraction

Ma was adept at cooking. She can cook a storm. Cooking was a passion for her and it was also a paying one at that. Speak of passion meeting purpose.

Everything was working fine for Ma, she had a good business, her customers were happy and she was making a kill at providing value to them. Interestingly, the business kept growing, every new idea just sparked - Ma often wondered how she struck gold. Life was at least in the direction she had dreamt and hoped for and she could not have asked for anything else.?

Hey, did I tell you that Ma's business was a partnership? No of course. Now here is the thing, while Ma was the all passionate and emotional business partner that knew all about the business, her partner was all about business. They actually complemented each other in an interesting manner. Yet their biggest challenge was their difference. It stood out in the room and was all that mattered most times. The emotional Ma and her business-like partner were often at loggerheads but when they synced the combination was unbeatable.?

Now, something happened that changed their business. It was another day for business, and Ma had a special delivery to make. It was not one she was charging for but for the relationship that it represented for her - she was putting everything in line to make that delivery come through as planned. She was very keen on delivering in a timely and efficient manner that even in the face of every form of aggravation from her partner, she just refused to respond in kind. Her focus was delivery must be done and indeed it happened with commendations coming through for the work done. The client was all effusive and thankful for the timeliness and commitment.?

And in the middle of all that, Ma realised that all the squabbles she had dealt with her partner were her majoring in the minor. That she needed to turn their difference into uniqueness. She laughed at their many battles that had been framed in various garbs. It was gratifying to see that she just needed the courage to change the things she could and a disposition free from stress and emotion for those she could not. Yes, the serenity prayer was it - she needed mostly the wisdom to know the difference between these twins. Thus this morning whilst speaking to her staff, Ma's topic was simply that?focus?trumps?distraction?any day and anytime.
