Distracted Much?

Distracted Much?

We just got a kitten.? And when I say ‘we’ got a kitten, I really mean ‘I’ got a kitten.?

I am the one who will do the lion’s share (no pun intended) of the work to get this kitten acclimated to our house and our family and our other cat.?

I will be the one who organizes feeding times and interactions and brings him to get vaccines.?

I have no business adding something like this to my plate.?

Having a kitten is a huge distraction from all the regularly scheduled programming that occurs in my day to day life. Mostly it’s a fun distraction.?

And it’s one of those things that I feel like there is no avoiding it, you kind of HAVE to take care of this small defenseless creature, you can’t just blow it off like you might be able to do with, say, cleaning the floors or folding the laundry or writing your blog post.?

Those types of things can get pushed, there isn’t any REAL urgency to that stuff. No living thing will starve if you don’t clean the floor or write.?

But there is only so long I can look at a dirty floor or a pile of unfolded laundry or avoid writing my blog post before I feel that tentacle of overwhelm tickling at the base of my spine.?

Those non-priority things DO still need to get done, but now I also have to worry about feeding another mouth and making sure no unsanctioned interactions are occurring between the new cat and the old one and making sure no one is peeing on my bathmat. In effect, I have simply piled more tasks onto my list.?

I like having a kitten, he’s cute and cuddly and makes me laugh. Until he is more established, he’s going to create a little more chaos in my life. A little more work.?

Which means I need to prioritize what things get done. I need to ask for more help from my people. I need to protect myself from feelings of overwhelm by being tactical about my approach to getting everything organized.?

I brought this upon myself. So I need to help myself to stay on top of things. With a little help from my tribe.?

Thinking about getting a kitten and need someone to convince you that it might not be a great idea? Let’s talk.?A coach can help you navigate these kinds of decisions, or the aftermath of such decisions.

Pets can be a great stress relief, but I totally get the extra work that they bring. We are currently on a pet break after having 3 little dogs for almost 15 years!
