Dissolve to Discover Self
Surrender to a Cause
Dissolving the self implies surrendering to a cause. Many do not understand what does this ‘surrendering ‘ Mean !
Most mistake surrender as becoming subservient or being secondary to someone, in a forced sacrifice or as an undesirable compromise. That is why typical questions that come to their minds are:
‘Why should I always compromise?’ ‘Why me; why not the other person?’
This happens because of two reasons:
# The first reason is ignorance. They miss the Big point that the surrender is to a cause and not to a person, hence no one has to surrender to anyone else. Everyone should surrender to a (common)cause, and a cause should always be higher than the self – like a child is to a mother. Therefore, the question of why me/why not him disappears.
# The second reason is ego. Ego prevents us from doing what should otherwise be simple, straightforward thinking. That is the whole point , as till we learn to dissolve our identity, we will not be able to think beyond ourselves. The moment we cross the mental barrier of the self as someone important or superior, we can see and connect with the larger purpose, which is our cause.
Only when one surrenders to a cause, does the process of value creation start.
The Sugar Analogy
Have you seen sugar dissolve in a glass of milk? What happens? The sugar disappears, but does the sugar lose its existence by doing that? Far from it, the sugar loses its visibility but not its existence. The sugar is immortalised by the recognition of the taste it adds to every drop of milk. Every drop of milk that you drink reminds you of the sugar that surrendered to the cause of making the milk sweet. The sugar has thus added value to the milk.
* In a way the sugar is reborn, it rediscovered itself
* Dissolving for the sugar was a way of connecting with a larger purpose, which was making the milk sweeter for the larger society. It was about recognising the larger sum game and espousing a cause greater than the self!
* It is like what JFK had once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” We must know what comes first!
* Those who can reach that higher level of understanding, i.e., realising what real surrender to a cause is, see that it applies to any potent relationship, for example between mother and child, husband and wife, employee and organisation, citizen and nation, etc.
A mother dissolves or immerses herself in her child, thus becoming immortal as a concept, beyond the confines of its physicality.
Which sugar would you choose to be?
Do you want to be the sugar who chooses to discover itself through dissolving or would you rather be the sugar that chooses not to dissolve in the milk to protect its identity? You have a choice :
@ That sugar which is transactional will always ask ‘What is in it for me? Why should I do it? Why should I always make sacrifices? Why can’t the milk dissolve in me, I am no less important’. This sugar will refuse to dissolve, and will never realise its full potential because it will never make the milk sweet
@ That sugar which connects with its larger purpose attains nirvana. It is the one who is fulfilled, having reached its full potential, and adds joy to the larger community. It hardly matters whether it is seen, as it is always there!

4 年I wrote about this yesterday too. The idea of surrendering, and actually the deep inner knowing of the underpinning of divine love to be there to engulf us beyond our small limited beliefs of ourselves, our fears So by yielding, we become available for life wanting to express ITSELF through and as us Thank you ?? 4 年True RamPrabhu , that is essentially the journey . However this journey / transformation is largely quantitative . It captures the extent of fluidity reached . There are a couple of qualitative advancements to this journey which my article tries to capture One is loss of ?????? ( ego ) - moving 'I' out of focus - increasing relevance by reducing importance Second is about ?????? . Dedicating to a chosen cause in a selfless manner . Like the ??????? ???? many of our freedom fighters had or like a Mother surrenders to the cause of her Child .
