Dissertation Reflection

Dissertation Reflection

This reflection will provide a summary of the initial thoughts related to the knowledge, skills, and tools that will be required to embark on my dissertation research in Computer Science. During this reflection, I will outline additional resources and support needed, while including skills from past experiences and learned knowledge that will be valuable to this process. Transitioning, I will discuss my background to discover the basis of my experience regarding my studies. From there, this reflection will illustrate the path I am attempting to cover in my professional research.

Some notable skills that relate to the dissertation research process are my B.S. in Software Engineering, B.A. in Philosophy from Florida Gulf Coast University, as well as an M.S. in Computer Science from Colorado Technical University. These accomplishments have provided the background and skills including critical thinking, research, and academic writing. While providing the technical knowledge and theory of the foundations for which I can formulate problem statements about the Computer Science field. In addition, I had certifications and training in various programming languages like Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and more. Together, the combination of these elements will allow me to use my understanding of the Computer Science field and research to make educated decisions and theories by creating solutions derived from other respective experts. I would also like to mention that my prior work experience may play a role in my research and knowledge. Currently, I am working as a Front-End Website Developer and Social Media Manager for Paradise Creative Group, where I create advertising campaigns, landing pages, and lead digital content creation, relating to the user experience. Prior, I worked for Night Owl S.P. and performed quality assurance and technician work for their security products, ranging from doorbells, cameras, and safes, while authoring technical manuals and guides. Here, my experience will shape economic with China from an Engineering and Communication perspective as our manufacturers built the base models that I tested. The last role that I would like to mention is my internship with Hertz as a Developer. This role would give familiarity with the Corporate world, National competitors, and cybersecurity for a Nationwide mobile application.

Relating to my current research it has become apparent that I am lacking in knowledge, skills, and tools for the completion of a dissertation research project. While the formulation of a problem statement has proven beneficial, this has shaped an issue that requires a larger solution and has an even larger history that provides a proper context to the situation. For instance, my skill that I find needed to broaden the basis of my programing knowledge in high-level programming languages like C++, or Java. These languages are structured to create architectures for complicated programs that operate many of today’s machines. Having this skill will allow me to explore complicated issues related to a problem, create a paradigm, or place limitations on this skill.

The knowledge basis of my research will advance in peer-related and academically sourced articles found in the school library to support my argument. At the same time, I am working on my own reading list related to my field that will allow me to create a context to my field, investigate problems Computer Science could explore, and attempt to find new truths related back to the subject. In general, the reading list will be comprised of Fiction, Non-Fiction, Technical Guides, Articles, and Textbooks. As far as tools, it will be necessary to use a computer for research with software such as Microsoft Word, EndNote, Grammarly, and access to the Internet. Other tools include virtual conferencing software for interviews and meetings to discuss questions related to the research with other experts, screen capturing software, and a microphone for discussions.

In conclusion, this reflection paper determines the background, experience, and knowledge needed to pursue the dissertation process. The basis of this research is to further the advancement of the Computer Science field and provide proof of my own professionalism within that field. To justify this position, this paper explores my education and work-related experience to infer any of my professional research. This formulation provides a background and context that allows the reader to understand why I designate the need for technical skills, literature knowledge, and tools for working with the direct mechanisms that are the basis of Computer Science.
