Are you a disruptor?

A disruptor reshapes expectations and drives unexpected change in a market, system, process, event, or even among people.?

In my journey running a commercial carpet business, I realized that staffing can be incredibly challenging. No-shows, last-minute cancellations, and countless excuses can be frustrating and discouraging. I struggled with this, feeling overwhelmed at times.

Then, something remarkable happened.

I stumbled upon a group of hardworking guys who not only enjoyed their work but were also flexible enough to adapt to sudden changes. When a job needed them, they were consistently punctual. I recognized their value immediately and welcomed them to my team.

One of the most significant concerns I hear from small business owners is the struggle to cultivate employee commitment. The pressing question is: how can a leader inspire unmotivated staff to achieve results?

Here's the crucial insight.

Hire motivated individuals. Provide exceptional training and treat everyone like family by using first names—even including their children!

This brings me to an often overlooked yet vital aspect of staffing: the values of those you hire. Understand and appreciate their unique qualities and ensure their values align with yours before making any decisions.

Values matter. When your team shares a common foundation, your business cannot help but thrive.

Core values such as trust, wisdom, accountability, growth, curiosity, courage, family, and generosity set the stage for success.

Returning to the idea of being a disruptor, recognize that a business can create significant change from within. In an industry where employee loyalty is scarce, a dedicated staff can challenge conventions and become a powerful force in the market.

That's precisely what I experienced. I discovered a culture of individuals eager to work, learn, and show up consistently. It transformed everything.
