The invention of wheel was one of the greatest inventions of mankind.

■ However, “why reinvent the wheel” is the greatest innovation of mankind.

■ Innovation is not always discovering or creating something new.

■ In this characteristic, Innovation is to exploit the existing assets (Tools, Processes, and Competence) in the most efficient and effective way.

■ Innovation & Change is a mutually complementary phenomenon.

■ As innovation brings Change in existing scenarios and vice–versa, a Change in existing scenarios invites new Innovations.

However, Change happens often, while Transformation happens occasionally.

■ Whereas Change is Evolutionary in nature, on the other side, Transformation is Revolutionary in nature.

■ Whereas Change is about a routine and regular shift, on the other side, Transformation is about a paradigm shift.

Whereas Change is a linear process, on the other side Transformation is exponential in nature.

■ A Transformation is just only a kind of Change. But it’s a Holistic Change with a long-term Vision & Goal.

▃ ▃ ▃ ▃

A Transformation covers a much wider horizon and diversified characteristics of a Change.

■ The term Digital Transformation is simply made of two words. The 1st one “Digital” represents Emerging Digital Technologies and the 2nd one “Transformation” is about bringing Holistic Change in Business Models.

■ So, Digital Transformation is simply a Business Transformation through the implementation of Emerging Digital Technologies.?

■ However, Emerging technologies should not be adopted as a fashion. Because a business case could be different for large-scale enterprises and small-scale enterprises.

■ The accountable person must ensure a 3-dimensional analysis of Desirability, Feasibility, and Viability before finalizing a solution. There might be a situation when doing a task manually is more viable than doing it in an automated way.

Disruptive Transformation

Industry 4.0 Digital Transformation

Many of us know the term "Disruptive Innovation". In business theory, disruptive innovation is the innovation that creates a new market and value network or enters at the bottom of an existing market and eventually displaces established market-leading firms, products, and alliances.

On the same line, a Disruptive Transformation is a Transformation that brings a holistic change in an enterprise in terms of its Process, Products, Services, Customer Experience, Value Chain, and People Competence, by implementing and utilizing specific means in terms of Strategy Tools and Emerging Technologies.

Disruption is a phenomenon, which brings a paradigm shift and fundamental change in our Business Models and Operating Models.

■ Today this Disruption is happening by applying Emerging Digital Technologies, tomorrow it will happen by applying something else.

■ Today this Disruption is happening for Profit & Growth, tomorrow it will happen for Sustainability & Survival.

■ Today this Disruption is focused on Technology & Machines, tomorrow its focus would be the inclusive involvement of human Centricity & Creativity.

■ Today this disruption is happening to achieve a Competitive Advantage, tomorrow it will happen to achieve a Collaborative Advantage.

■ To understand the dynamic industry trends on upcoming disruptions, let's keep a watch on the fourth to forthcoming industry revolution.

■ After witnessing the innovation in industries, one might think that what are the factors, which influence us for change and innovation.

■ Steering forces are the influencing factors that bound us to think about and take a decision for new initiatives.?

■ There could be multiple sources of these influencing factors.

■ We can broadly categorize these factors from two perspectives.

■ One is internal, which means arising within the enterprise, and the second is external, coming from outside the enterprise.

■ Again we can categorize these factors in terms of Business factors and Non - Business or technology factors.

■ These influence forces are steering us to move in a certain direction.

■ Many times, organizations are forced to innovate and transform due to several influencing factors.

■ Among these factors, growth and competitive advantage are not the only causes of transformation and innovation.

■ Sometimes Survival and Sustainability also demand transformation.

■ The current pandemic situation has proved that survival & sustainability also demand innovation and change.

■ Change is the only constant and any operations excellence & maturity model is not an exception to it.?

■ Often change happens as a gradual progression and sometimes it happens suddenly.

■ Now change is happening in a sudden way, due to the current pandemic situation.?

■ Digital Transformation is about a new paradigm shift.

■ To bring a Paradigm Shift for the execution of a Digital Transformation program, we must start with a Mindset Shift.

■ Digital Transformation is a step-by-step process from Digitization, through Digitalization to Digital Transformation.

■ In this process, while the initial steps, Digitization and Digitalization are focused on the technology part, the final step Digital Transformation is about a new Paradigm Shift.?

■ Any industry vertical grow and sustains its existence surrounding key customer needs, specific to that industry.

■ These customer needs are the i-SAP "industry - Service Anchor Points". These are the sole objective, nearby which an industry evolves and transform.

■ For example, learning is an i-SAP for the education industry.

■ At any time, either in our past, present, or future, it is about learning, which is the sole objective of the education system and industry.?

■ We can see, how our education system is evolving and getting transformed by providing online and pre-recorded MOOC - Massive Open Online Courses.

■ But the sole objective of i -SAP is still the same, i.e. learning.

■ This is the "i-SAP" of an industry that remains the center of any kind of industry innovation and aligns all the factors for the next change.

■ Whether it is a Technology Innovation or Business Innovation, Digital Transformation, Innovation act as a catalyst to boost the outcome.

■ Further, we can see that, in business theory, disruptive innovation is an innovation that eventually disrupts an existing business landscape.

■ Not only in theory, but we can witness these changes in our real life and in real-time, stimulated by Digital Transformation in various industry verticals.

■ Here, we can see a few examples from the industries.

■ Moving from legacy to modern.

■ The Digital Age requires a rethink about traditional/legacy strategy formulation in discovering opportunities in current and forthcoming scenarios.

■ To understand the steering forces and influencing factors, we have to understand the evolution of technology and business.

■ We can categorize this evolution from two perspectives.

■ 1st with the legacy approach and 2nd with a modern approach.

▃ ▃ ▃ ▃

■ ■ ■ ■

???????????????????? ???????????????????? - ?? ???????????? ????????????????

???????? ???????? ??????????????????

■ The legacy approach works as an open-loop evolution of technology and business innovations.

■ In this approach, business requirements drove technology, which then enabled the business to advance with the objective of digitalizing processes and making products available through digital channels.

■ In an open-loop approach, a new business requirement pushes the technology to bring the solution for the enablement of a new business model and follow the same steps whenever any new requirement arises.

■ In this approach, business requirements steer the change.

???????????????????? ???????????????????? - ?? ???????????? ????????????????

???????????? ???????? ??????????????????

■ The modern approach works as a closed-loop evolution of technology and business innovations.

■ In this approach, technology creates new opportunities and fundamentally changes businesses, and transforms the business and operating models of almost every industry.

■ In close loop approach technology innovations creates a new playing field for the creation and execution of new business models and take feedback from business environments to further evolve the technology.

■ Moreover, this new playing field is not limited to a single industry vertical.

■ In this approach, technology innovation and evolution steer the change.

???????? ?????? ???????? ??????????????????

■ It is a Push and Pulls kind of phenomenon where Technology pushes for the development of the new Business model, whereas Business Demand or Market Pull is for the Enhancement of new technology areas.?

■ In other words, the market pull?approach attempts to provide products the?market?demands, whereas the technology push?approach attempts to interest the?market?in new products based on new solutions.

■ We can see that both Technology and Business play an important role by complementing each other.

■ Ultimately it is the match of Business and Technology which act as a steering force for Digital Transformation.

■ Technology factors act as Enablers for the development of new business models.

■ This is the Technology in the form of Digitization and Digitalization which bring real change on the ground.

■ On the Technology side, the Horizontal component enables a new business model.

■ Business factors act as Drivers toward a Technology Evolution.

■ On the Business side, the Industry vertical, demand for Technology Enhancements.

■ Digital Transformation in Technology and Business context.

■ Let us look at Digital Transformation in Technology and Business context.?

■ In this context, Business is representing an Industry Vertical (Component) and Technology as a Horizontal Component to enable Digitalization.

■ On the Business side, the Industry vertical, demands Technology Enhancements.

■ On the Technology side, the Horizontal component enables a new business model.

■ Here the key point is that most of the Horizontal Components, Connectivity, Computing, Data Analytics, AI, etc. are common to various Industry verticals.?

■ ■ ■ ■

?????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ?????? ???????????????? ??????????????????

■ To realize a Digital Transformation we need to implement multiple technologies for the Digitalization of various aspects.

■ These are the technologies that enable an organization to Digitize its Operations, Processes, Products, Services, and Customer Experience & ultimately transform its holistic Business Model.

■ These technologies are considered Horizontal Components of Digital Transformation as these are implemented as a layered technology stake and common to any Industry Vertical.

▃ ▃ ▃ ▃

Finally, we can notice that the Paradox of Disruptive Innovation is equally applicable to Disruptive Transformation as well.
