Disruptive Technologies in Formulation - Manufacturing - SCI Formulation Forum

Join the second SCI Formulation Forum event focusing on Disruptive Technologies in Formulation, 21st & 22nd January (London).

One of the five sessions of the two-day event will focus on manufacturing in formulation. Many methods for processing formulations haven’t changed in generation - so there is great potential to reduce waste and energy consumption as well as to make uniform micro- and nano-structured products.

  • Professor Harris Makatsoris of Cranfield University will tell us about how combining process intensification, digital technologies and artificial intelligence can be combined to rapidly design and manufacture novel and “mass customised” formulated products.
  • 3D-printing (also known as additive manufacturing) is gaining in importance in many sectors, including formulated materials. Dr Sam Olof of OxSyBio will be talking about the development of 3D printing and automation methods for the biofabrication of artificial tissues.
  • For years, emulsions have been made using energy-consuming high-shear or high-pressure processes which produce rather non-uniform products. However, Dr Marijana Dragosavac of Loughborough University will be telling us how membrane emulsification technology is now a practical way of making highly uniform and precisely controlled emulsions which can enable the “particle engineering” of novel and complex formulations.

The Formulation Forum’s second event follows on from the first with open discussions where everyone can interact, meet and network with experts in the formulation world at the evening dinner, and learn what activities are happening in the formulation community. It is a place where academia can meet business, and where students can learn about exciting career opportunities in formulation.
