Disruptive Innovation in Formulation - Optimised Delivery - SCI Formulation Forum
Join the second SCI Formulation Forum event focusing on Disruptive Technologies in Formulation, 21st & 22nd January (London).
One of the five sessions of the two-day event will focus on optimising delivery in formulation. For decades formulations have been developed to successfully deliver materials to their targets through a careful balance of ingredients and processing. Now various devices both synthetic and biological are being used to enable more accurate delivery of functional materials with greater ease for the user. This approach leads to new formulation challenges to insure the formulation and devices work synergistically to optimise delivery and user compliance.
This session will focus on how these new disruptive techniques will offer translational changes in targeted delivery and the challenges and opportunities these will bring to the field of formulation.
- The use of bio-electrosprays and cell electrospinning in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine will be discussed by Prof Suwan N. Jayasinghe, University College London. Successful development of these bio-protocols sees the emergence of unique future platform strategies with far-reaching consequences for our healthcare.
- Dr Faz Chowdhury, Nemaura will focus on drug delivery through the skin using microneedles to provide commercial, clinical and end user advantages. Offering improved formulation stability along with ease of use. However, challenges with formulating with these devices such as dose consistency will also be explored.
- The possibilities of 3D printed devices in personalised medicine will be explored by Dr Laura Ruiz Cantu, Nottingham University. This talk will focus on how these devices work synergistically with their drug containing formulation to optimise delivery.
- The Formulation Forum’s second event follows on from the first with open discussions where everyone can interact, meet and network with experts in the formulation world at the evening dinner, and learn what activities are happening in the formulation community. It is a place where academia can meet business, and where students can learn about exciting career opportunities in formulation.
