Disposing of Sanitary Napkins

Disposing of Sanitary Napkins

Many individuals who use sanitary napkins when menstruating often carry newspapers to dispose of them. Despite the fact that each new sanitary napkin comes with a plastic cover, the cover is not designed to properly cover the old napkins. For this reason, many individuals choose to wrap the napkins in newspapers before disposing of them.

?Unfortunately, this practice can increase the risk of spreading diseases (HIV, gonorrhea, and chlamydia, as well as blood-borne infections like hepatitis B and C) through menstrual blood, as the paper may become wet during disposal if not handled efficiently.?

Let's speak about how awkward it is for many individuals to carry a large newspaper and a sanitary napkin in settings where other people are present. Female-oriented clothing like sarees and salwar kameez doesn't even have pockets, and the ones they do have are tiny. Many people are uncomfortable carrying both since periods are viewed as taboo subjects to talk about.

?In the absence of paper, some individuals may wrap used napkins in the half-open plastic cover of a new napkin, or even throw them directly in the trash.

??To address these issues, it would be beneficial for new sanitary napkins to include a cover that fully covers the used napkin, thus reducing the risk of disease transmission and eliminating the need for individuals to carry a separate paper. Check out my preliminary idea, which is an improved version of an existing plastic cover wrapped in new sanitary napkins. To fully enclose the sides, I attached wings to the cover. Existing covers come with a tiny piece of adhesive tape at the opening. To keep the wrapping tight, I have thus placed 2 more tapes on the wing corners. It is a simple design with minimal changes but I believe it can help in reducing the problems listed earlier.

?As menstruation is a common experience shared by nearly half of the world's population, it is important to address these small problems in order to create a safer and more comfortable world for all.

And finally someone spoke about the most frustrating thing we do every month. With the period pain and mood swings this seems like a huge task to do. There were times when women forgot to dispose it off and left it at the bathroom sink which evens worsens the situation! A sophisticated design like yours can help with the disposal and also eliminate the humiliation that comes along with it when we have to do it when there are people around.

Agreed. The current design doesn't support proper disposal and your idea looks promising.
