Why Merchants Don't Offer OOH, and?Why That Matters

Our recent report ‘European Out-of-Home Delivery Options – An eCommerce Merchant Survey’ surveyed retailers across the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain to learn which merchants are offering OOH delivery and how they’re making it happen.

We take a deep dive into the results, exploring why?nearly 1 in 4 merchants still don’t offer OOH delivery options at the checkout, and what the?impact of offering OOH delivery was to the 77% of European merchants?that do offer this option.

The top three insights from WMX Asia

WMX Asia brought together heavy hitters from across the region in Bangkok to discuss topics from crossborder to returns to changing consumer behaviours and needs. Our South-East Asia Business Development Manager Dom Kaye compiled three key trends from across the keynotes and discussion groups.

Digital transformation isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the foundation for last-mile success

To some, ‘digital transformation’ is an ill-defined marketing buzzword, with too many different meanings to be useful. However, posts and parcel carriers do need to transform, and they need technology to do so. We got Danielle Strouther to take us through a practical pathway for logistics businesses to become technology businesses, and why they should be doing it.

Pitney Bowes Global Shipping Index reveals carrier revenue grew in 2021 across all markets

The latest edition of the Index also recorded a 21% YOY increase in parcel volume. Despite forecasts of an economic slowdown and high inflation, parcel growth is still predicted to be between 5.5-11.5% CAGR, estimated to reach between 216-300 billion parcels by 2027. However, a massive amount of this growth is coming from China, which surpassed 100 billion parcels this year, and is predicted to see 200 billion parcels in 2027. That makes up more than two thirds of Pitney’s global volume forecast.

Metapack predicts a 7% decline in YoY volume for 2022 ecommerce peak season

A global demand slowdown, rising inflation and a cost-of-living crisis are predicted to negatively impact the upcoming shopping period as 58% of consumers plan to adjust their buying behaviour. eCommerce volume is predicted to drop back to 2019 levels in the UK, and even lower in France and Germany. Earlier this year, we examined?how carriers could sustain record growth?– which might now prove more important than ever.

Last Mile Experts Release 2022 European PUDO and APM Report

LME’s in-depth 100+ page report is loaded with insight, but some stood out: OOH delivery can be up to 5 times as efficient as home delivery; and consumer preference for at-home delivery has slightly fallen, with 82% of shoppers choosing it as their preferred option. Parcel locker preference has grown since last year, but still remains in 3rd?place (17%) behind parcel shops at 18%.

Interestingly, the report also states that although the most developed OOH markets currently see over 90% of parcel volume being delivered OOH, the authors expect that this will average out across all countries at something like 40-60% of deliveries, which tallies with a?forecast we made in 2021.

Meanwhile, other CEOs including Amazon, the?Co-op, Signify, Zurich Insurance, Coca-Cola and more have called upon UK Prime Minister Liz Truss to put a net zero emission plan into place, to reverse nature loss and help UK residents and businesses in the energy crisis, as?3 in 10 businesses consider pausing or halting low carbon transition investment?unless the new UK government acts to cut energy costs.
