Male erectile dysfunction can be treated with PDE-5 inhibitors such as sildenafil, vardenafil, and tadalafil. It should be noted, though, that these medications do not cause spontaneous eruption and require erotic and/or physical stimulation to be effective. The medications are contraindicated in patients who take organic nitrates as well as patients who are clinically hypotensive, have experienced a recent cardiovascular event, or have retinitis pigmentosa. Side effects of PDF-5 inhibitors can include a minor disturbance in color vision that takes the form of a greenish-blue hue.
