Disney CEO Bob Iger on succession priorities; Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch reflects on Dominion lawsuit; and more
In a newsy session at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, Disney CEO Bob Iger said succession planning is “at the top of the list” of his priorities. Iger, who had a 14-year run as CEO ending in 2020 and then returned to the top job last November, has a two-year contract. Because he set plans to leave his post and then reneged multiple times during the 2010s before then anointing relative short-timer Bob Chapek, Iger is under particular scrutiny on the corporate leadership front.?
Iger noted that a special succession committee has been formed and held its most recent meeting on Wednesday. “We all know that not only is it an important decision but that we don’t have an endless amount of time to make it,” Iger said. “Conversations have been great. I am confident that we will identify the right successor at the right time.”?
The Disney chief also hit on a number of other big topics, including theme park pricing, the fate of Hulu and the health of major subsidiaries like Marvel and Lucasfilm.?

In a stunning development, Anonymous Content CEO Dawn Olmstead and COO Heather McCauley have resigned from the company. The moves came in protest of the company’s decision to offer a monetary settlement to former longtime exec Keith Redmon, who left the company under a cloud. Redmon had been accused of non-consensual sexual misconduct, though he adamantly denied the charges and filed suit against Anonymous, seeking a share of its proceeds from the TV series?Schitt’s Creek. Redmon had also been one of the producers of Oscar-winning film?The Revenant.?

With the $1.6 billion lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News nearing trial, Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch dismissed it as merely “noise” stemming from the partisan divide in American politics. Appearing at a conference hosted by Wall Street firm Morgan Stanley, Murdoch said the network has nothing to apologize for over its coverage of the 2020 election. Dominion claims numerous Fox hosts over several weeks deliberately misled viewers over the company’s voting machines and propagated lies about election fraud, stoking the anger that fueled the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol. News organizations have the responsibility “to report the news fulsomely, wholesomely and without fear or favor,” Murdoch said. “And that is what Fox News has done and will always do.”
