Disney, Anxi Biotech, and Fuxiang Pharmaceutical are all stepping up their efforts in the pet business

The latest data from the "2025 White Paper on China's Pet Industry" shows that the size of China's urban dog and cat consumption market achieved a significant growth of 7.5% in 2024, with a total value of 300.2 billion yuan. In this growth, the size of the dog consumption market reached 155.7 billion yuan, although the growth rate slowed down, it still achieved a slight increase of 4.6%; The size of the cat consumption market has shown a stronger growth momentum, reaching 144.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%. Faced with such a booming pet market, many companies have recently chosen to enter or further increase their layout in the pet track, in order to occupy a place in this rapidly growing market. Recently, Shanghai Disneyland launched a series of pet clothing and supplies with the theme of "Duffy and Friends". Covering pet headgear, scarves, hoodies, and mobile cat boxes. These products fully incorporate Disney's classic cartoon elements in their design, but their price positioning is relatively high. Despite its high price, thanks to Disney's strong brand influence and fans' deep love for its cartoon characters, the product has been warmly sought after by many fans since its launch.

However, from the feedback of some pet owners, some products are not perfect in design. For example, this series of hoodies only provide S and M sizes. This size limit makes many pet owners who raise large dog breeds (such as Samoye, corgi) and large cat breeds (such as Maine cats) feel dissatisfied.


However, from a market strategy perspective, Disney's move is undoubtedly a precise market positioning. According to statistics, the proportion of small dogs raised in first, second, and third tier cities in China exceeds half. This trend is closely related to the civilized dog ownership policies introduced by major cities across the country, with many large dogs and some medium-sized dogs being banned due to policy restrictions. In this context, Disney's S and M size pet hoodies clearly focus more on meeting the needs of small dogs and cats, achieving a design that is compatible with both cats and dogs. And Disney also used the most economical way to target the widest user base.
