Drama is something that most people will say with great certainty that they do not want as any part of their life. Yet, if drama somehow still manages to rear its nasty head in one or more areas of your life with varying degrees of frequency, repetition and ensuing chaos, know that you aren’t alone, nor are you someone who is unlucky in life.
?
To clarify, we aren’t referring to those one-off situations in life that you have no control over like the road closing down on your work commute due to an accident or needing to replace an appliance that went on the fritz and stopped working.
?
Instead, we are talking about actual drama and chaos that is unnecessary and avoidable for you to have to experience …yet strangely it finds its way to you like a moth to a flame.
?
In an effort to increase your self-awareness, let’s take a look at why this is the case.
?
Primary Reasons Drama is Your Companion
When drama plays a prominent role in your life, know that there’s usually one of three common reasons, or a combination thereof that I see with clients. Either you are choosing to surround yourself with drama, you are drawn to drama, or you subconsciously create drama.
?
While drama-on-repeat is a rather perplexing, frustrating and exhausting pattern to find yourself trapped in, you were likely programmed to resonate with drama without even realizing it.
?
Humans gravitate toward what is familiar even if whatever that is makes them miserable.
?
Following are deeper insights into common unhealthy patterns associated with drama which include surrounding yourself with the drama of others, being drawn to dramatic and dysfunctional situations, and being your very own creator and source of drama.
??
The Pattern of Surrounding Yourself With Drama
This type of drama pattern involves maintaining relationships with people who are prone to drama, chaos and dysfunction. Such unhealthy relationships are often void of boundaries and may include family, friends or romantic partners.
?
Drama patterns of this nature also include remaining in or continuing to subject yourself to toxic environments such as miserable workplaces or reality TV show-like experiences that are harmful to your peace of mind and well-being.
?
WHY: You may be inclined to surround yourself with drama if chaos, dysfunction or instability were the norm in your early formative years and/or you experienced a seriously toxic or traumatic romantic partnership or marriage. Essentially, it feels normal to you.
?
The Pattern of Being Drawn to Drama
This type of drama pattern entails subconsciously seeking out dramatic situations to involve yourself in, oftentimes with a strong inclination to play the starring role of fixer or savior.

WHY: You may find yourself magnetized to dramatic and messy situations needing to be solved if you have or continue to be subjected to volatility as a regular part of your life. By playing the part of fire chief, you get the opportunity to rescue and give others something you personally need(ed) but didn’t get.
?
Doing so is also a not-so-great and rather unhealthy distraction from having to face and resolve those things you’ve been shoving down and trying to ignore within yourself.
??
The Pattern of Creating Drama
This particular type of drama pattern may seem strange on the surface yet is fairly common. Manufacturing and playing the starring role of a person plagued by continuous difficulties, misfortune or seemingly bad luck serves a variety of purposes, all of which are negative and involve some sort of payoff.
?
WHY: If you’ve been deeply conditioned to believe or expect that turmoil, volatility, instability and/or disappointment are a normal part of life, you may be prone to subconsciously or intentionally creating drama where it would otherwise not exist.
?
Doing so connects you back to what feels familiar while also generating attention and even excitement. It may also play into a subconscious need of wanting to be rescued. On the more extreme end, doing so may feed a physiological addiction to the stress response associated with major chaos or unresolved trauma.
?
What You Can Do to Minimize Drama
If you’ve grown tired of never-ending drama or are exhausted from having taken up long-term residence in a circus of chaos otherwise known as your life, here are some things I recommend to clients that you can do:
?
Bringing It All Together
While there will always be things in life that are outside of your control, experiencing unnecessary and ongoing drama is not one of those things. If you find yourself continuously riding an unpleasant roller coaster of drama or residing in an exhausting circus of chaos, the most likely common denominator in the equation is you. The good news is that with increased self-awareness, a desire to grow beyond this unhealthy pattern plus a bit of specialized support in doing so, you can let go of old tendencies to surround yourself with, seek out or personally create messy drama in your life. By saying goodbye and good riddance to drama, you open yourself up to a brand new world of inner peace, joy, harmony, abundance, and a life that flows with ease.
Wishing you infinite abundance and peace,?
