The Disguised Employee

The Disguised Employee

Following the up’s and downs of the past few days surrounding the initial announcement by Mr. Hammond, then his subsequent U-Turn, which has been the catalyst for much conversational debate on numerous social media platforms; I think that it’s time we took a better look at this.

The first reaction by those most effected, was that of outrage on why should we be penalized; made responsible to assist in the repayment of a debt which was created by those within the corporate world.

A lot of people jumped on the PAYE Bandwagon; branding us as “Money Hungry.” I think that in all fairness, being “Money Hungry” is much more popular than we like to admit.

For example:

  • Ant and Dec are all over our TV’s, in the tabloids, and always because we can’t get enough of them.
  • J K Rowling announces that she is going to publish another book, the public fan base go wild, and all is good.
  • E L James writes, publishes, releases a movie sequel to her debut; and once again the public fan base go wild, and all is good.

Do you have any idea how much these people earn, and yet they still want to earn more! Have you branded the as “Money Hungry?”

The other side of this which has been missed is that the people named above; whom we all appreciate and respect, are all Self-Employed Contractors.

The list of Self-Employed Contractors includes; though not limited to:

  • Actors/Actresses etc.
  • Authors/Ghost Writers/Columnists/Editors/Publishers/Agents etc.
  • Television Presenters/Camera Men|Women/Sound Operators etc.
  • Radio Presenters/Producers etc.
  • Professional Sports People/Trainers/Dieticians/Physios etc.
  • Surgeons/Doctors/Consultants/Physiatrists etc.
  • Solicitors/Lawyers/High Council Representatives/Magistrates/Judges/High Court Judges etc.

The few bullet points above, all work very hard long hours. The same as Ant and Dec, J K Rowling, E L James and every Contractor that I know.

How many people who are PAYE’s complain about their pay, how much they struggle, and the need to earn more = overtime is the biggest “Greed Monster!”

Now that I have highlighted the reality; I would like to thank you all for reading.
