The Disgraceful Corrupt Management Practices at UTECH by Professor Colin Gyles, supported by Minster Fayval Williams and Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Professor Colin Gyles is the acting President of the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTECH), who used a compromised corrupt deal to promote Ms. Marion Brown to Registrar, the Senior Vice President position without having the minimum required Master's degree qualification.

The minimum qualification for the Registrar position is a Master's degree. Never in the history of UTECH has anyone been appointed in that position with only a Bachelor's degree. and not having a Master's degree. Ms. Marion Brown has undergraduate Batchelor's degree qualifications in Law and International Relations, along with a Legal Education Certificate. None of which or all together amounts to a Master's degree.

The position of Registrar is a Senior Academic Management position in the university that deals with all academic matters; assessment and evaluation, and contributes significantly to the reputation of the university in its awards of Bachelor, Master, and even Ph.D. degrees to students. How can someone with only a Bachelor's degree be in such a position? That is a major retrograde step in the university. Not only does Ms. Marion Brown not have a Master's degree, but neither does she have any formal educational specialist training and management qualifications nor experience in any of those areas.

The Senior Vice President position of Registrar is not a Lawyer's position. It is a senior management position that involves some formal management training qualification with the necessary legal and ethical aspects of management. Ms. Marion Brown immorally accepted the position knowing very well that she does not meet the minimum qualification for the position. She totally ignored her legal profession ethics which clearly states that "a Lawyer should always be professional." Unlike the highly dignified former Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Chief of Staff, Rocky Meade who was offered the position of Cabinet Secretary but respectfully declined the offer because he knew that he was not legally eligible for such a position. Ms. Marion Brown totally ignored the legal ethical and morally acceptable way of life with no regard for her legal profession's canon of professional ethics.

Professor Colin Gyles has a history of illiterate and corrupt management practices at the University of Technology while acting as president, as I had previously exposed him in another article. Professor Colin Gyles corruptly knows that my application is there for the job of Registrar with all the necessary/ required qualifications and experience for the job and having taught at the university for 13 years. Also, there are other qualified persons in Jamaican society who could fill the position, but Professor Gyles quietly and corruptly has the position filled by someone who is not qualified for it.

Having heard about the corrupt filling of the post I wrote to Professor Gyles and asked him if he was not aware of my application there for the job. He admitted saying that he was aware of my application for the position, but my application did not come up. Understandably, his corrupt management practices did not bother to have the qualified persons call to be interviewed for the job. Secondly, I asked him to send me the list of requisite qualifications for the position of Registrar, but he refused to send me the qualification. Also thirdly, I asked him to disclose the qualifications of Ms. Marion Brown but he refused to do so too.

Clearly, Professor Gyles thinks he is so clever that he can cover up his corruption. His illiterate and uncivilized behavior is pathetic. Professor Colin Gyles is bent on running UTECH in a highly corrupt and compromised way which is a detriment to the university's reputation and standard. Professor Colin Gyles is a major disgrace to the University of Technology. This is of great concern to me and other Alumni members, and as a former academic staff member to see the once highly reputable university now going to a wrecked by Professor Colin Gyles's corrupt management practices.

The matter was reported to the Minister of Education, Fayval Williams and in turn to Prime Minister, Andrew Holness. To date, I have not got a response from them after a reasonable time, I do not know if they are doing anything about it. Minister, Fayval Williams is most disgraceful for promoting such corruption in her own constituency as a member of parliment for the same area. Both Prime Minister Andrew Holness and his Ministers of government are very illiterate about their constitutional responsibilities to the people of Jamaica and in clear dereliction of their duties. They promote corruption in every government ministry in Jamaica instead of getting rid of corruption and corrupt public servants.

The University of Technology and Professor Colin Gyles can now prepare for a major civil lawsuit for their corrupt discriminatory recruitment practices, with Professor Colin Gyles openly admitting that he knew my application was there for the job, and instead agreed to the job being given to someone who is not qualified for it.
