During this week’s roundtable, we had a wonderful set of discussions on the Future of Social Media.
Black Med-Connect (B-MED)
We first had Dr. Jasmine Weiss from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, pitch the B-MED / Black-Med-Connect mobile app for the Black medical community, a specialized social / professional network idea.
ONWAYZ
Next, we had Kuldeep Puri from Mumbai, Inda, pitch ONWAYZ, another social network idea that needs more crisp definition.
For those of you who are passionate about the Future of Social Media, I invite you to participate in a discussion I am having on Facebook, as follows.
For the last seven weeks, I was in Europe with family and friends. I published my photo travelogue on Facebook which many followed.
At the end of the trip, I posted the following message:
We’ve spent seven wonderful weeks with our family and friends in Belgium and France. Tomorrow, we fly home. For those who have followed my travelogue here on Facebook, I seek some input on what you found interesting/appealing. The reason I ask is to do some research within my social network about the future of social media.
Facebook is getting a lot of criticism these days. Many have stopped using the platform.

I like Facebook. It is a simple, well thought through tool for me to keep in touch, exchange ideas, experiences, memories with people who care to keep in touch with me.
Facebook’s algorithm is extremely intelligent. It does NOT show posts to people who don’t care to see them. My assumption, if you’re seeing my posts, is that you’ve indicated to Facebook that you’re interested.
Sometimes, I post for an audience of one. Example: photos of my nephew for my sister-in-law. I don’t expect 200, 500, 5000, 50000 people to see photos of kids in my family playing Hotel. And Facebook is smart enough to know that!
Anyway, I shall stop here and listen to what you have to say. If I get enough interesting feedback, I might write an article on the subject.
A very interesting discussion has ensued in this thread that you can read and participate in here:
