Discussing COVID-19, Chronic Disease, and the New U.S. Administration on Bloomberg TV
Bob Bradway
I’m excited to be leading Amgen as we harness dramatic advances in science and technology to serve patients suffering from serious diseases.
I had a brief but wide-ranging on-air conversation last week with Caroline Hyde of Bloomberg TV. I shared my optimism that new vaccines and therapeutics will enable us eventually to turn the corner on COVID-19, as well as my concern that the pandemic has deterred many people from obtaining medical attention for cancer and chronic conditions such as heart disease and osteoporosis. It would be tragic indeed if we succeeded in defeating COVID only to find ourselves facing a new wave of chronic disease, much of which we already have the means to predict and prevent.
Finally, I expressed my shock at the outrageous scenes we witnessed last week at the U.S. Capitol. We at Amgen are eager to work with the new administration and Congress to help rebuild trust in our public institutions and advance health reforms to ensure that all Americans – especially our most vulnerable citizens – can obtain the medicines they need to stay healthy and overcome disease.
