Discovery’s latest innovations bring healthcare closer to more South Africans
Every year, Discovery hosts an event for our financial advisers where we introduce the latest digital innovations and product enhancements for the next year. Yesterday, we did Discovery Day very differently with our immersive virtual experience. 2020 was no ordinary year and yet our dedication to making people healthier and enhancing and protecting their lives never wavered.
This year, our product launch truly delivered on our core purpose as a company and brand, especially as we continue to operate in hugely complex and challenging times. Considering how the issue of health, wellness and protection have become more important than ever before, the innovations we announced reflect some of our key values – innovation, optimism and dazzling clients.
Yesterday, we announced that contributions across all Discovery Health Medical Scheme plans will be frozen for the first six months of 2021, to give our members some financial relief during these challenging times. We’re also introducing Discovery Prepaid Health to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to more South Africans.
Our new Connected Care platform will enable a digital end-to-end healthcare journey for members. And, for the first time in South Africa, Discovery Health is giving members access to a remotely guided doctor’s visit, by connecting the internationally acclaimed TytoHome device to the member’s online consultation.
Another first for medical schemes in South Africa – in 2021, Discovery Health Medical Scheme will be fully compliant with Shari’ah principles, giving members of the Muslim community who could not access health insurance before the ability to do so.
Discovery Vitality is partnering with Nike, the world’s leading sportswear and apparel brand, to reward members as they become physically active. We’ve expanded the Vitality fitness benefit to include over 300 physical and digital fitness facilities, and to reward members for staying active.
Discovery Miles, the world’s first shared-value rewards currency, is now more valuable than cash with more ways to earn and spend them across a broad range of partners and platforms. Discovery Invest clients can also earn Discovery Miles through Vitality for their good investment behaviour.
Finally, we introduced the Discovery Estate Preserver, a new product designed to protect the value of clients’ estates and to protect their family against legal and admin costs.
