The Discovery That Propelled Me

I remember I was about 32 years old when I had a major turning point moment in my life that really helped my entrepreneurial journey--helped me get to where I am at this moment in my life.

I remember sitting across from my old boss on his private plane, and I remember him and I were talking when I truly wondered how this guy who was very intelligent, very driven, very ambitious, had achieved such a high level of success. I had to ask myself this question: "why isn't this my plane?" "What is it that he knows that I don't know?"

Those questions really consumed me because I figured out that if you take two people that have equal amount of drive and one is at this incredibly high level and one is struggling to get by what's the difference?

It's not the cereal the guy eats for breakfast. It's not the coffee he drinks. It's simply that the person knows something. Now that may sound so simple stupid, but it's the absolute truth. The only real difference between somebody that has the lifestyle from magazines, the money, the perfect guy or the perfect girl, the perfect this and perfect that, is that the person knows something that you don't know. Of course, you have to work for it, you have to be persistent, and you have to be ambitious however underneath that great success is knowledge.

At an eventual point I realized that I have the drive, I have the persistence, I have willingness to take risks, to do all the things that I have to do in order to be successful, to sacrifice everything I need to sacrifice, but that I needed to consume more data so that I could better my life.

I discovered that you need to know what successful people know. So, to pursue the life you desire you must acquire the knowledge that it takes to get you there.
