Discovering Your Purpose in The Age of AI

Discovering Your Purpose in The Age of AI

The past month has been a struggle for me.?

(I admit it.)?

I successfully automated myself out of creating content using brandbeam.ai.

Sounds like the dream to most (and it is!) but I fell into a crisis.?

A crisis of meaning...?

  • What is my meaning now that I’ve turned myself into an AI?
  • What is my meaning now that I’ve automated myself?

I just happen to be one of the first that this has happened to.?

But millions are about to feel the same way in the coming years.?

And the reason I skipped these last two weeks of FreedomFriday??

It's because I was on a journey of rediscovering meaning and what it means to be human.?

After weeks of reflection here’s are 3 key unlocks I discovered that you need to know…

  1. You are not your job.?
  2. The purpose of life is you.?
  3. Follow your highest excitement.?

Let's dive in!

1) You are not your job.?

When you spend so much of your time and energy dedicated towards work, your identity cannot help but be tied to it.

It’s why most people end up hating retirement because all they’ve known is their work and career.

This is worsened by the fact that our default way of getting to know each other always ends up being the question...

“So...what do you do?”

Rather than...

“What do you enjoy most in life?”

I fell into this same trap.?

My identity in the last 2 years has been one of a writer, a visual artist, and a creator.

And now that the thing that I tied my identity to and used to take me a days to create and post onto social media, is automated with AI without lifting a finger?

I felt lost.

I mean, brandbeam.ai’s videos were so effective that they generated me 500 new leads on autopilot this last month alone...doing all the things that used to take so much effort.

Effort that used to give me meaning.

While this automation is great for efficiency and freedom, 2 core questions arose…

Who am I? What is my worth in society?

But I realised that this question alone was the problem.

Why?

Because…

I was tying my entire value as a human being to what I could do for society.

When in fact my value and meaning should be tied to something internal, not external.

And that’s when I realised “You are not your job”.?

But rather...

Your purpose in life?

2) The purpose of life is YOU.?

It's not what you produce or how much value you can bring to the table.

It's not about how many hours you hustle or the followers you gain.

The real purpose is simply being, feeling, and experiencing reality as it is.?

It's about...

  • The joy of laughing so hard that tears stream down your cheeks.
  • The satisfaction of learning something new, just because you can.
  • The way the sun hugs your face when it shines through your curtains.

It's the feeling of connection…

  • To the people you love.
  • To the environment around you.
  • To the infinite moment we call the present.

And most importantly?

To yourself.

No amount of "productivity" will make you feel that.

No "KPI" or "metric" will satisfy that deeper longing.

The bottom line is this...

The value of your life should no longer be measured by output.

The value of your life should be measured by how fully you show up in it.

And that can only be achieved when you…

3) Follow your highest excitement.

If there’s one thing I discovered in my search for meaning??

It's that the purest compass you have in life is your authenticity.?

  • What lights you up?
  • What gives you that spark?
  • What wakes you up every morning?

That’s the direction you need to head toward.

And you know you have that inner pull toward what excites you.?

Sometimes it’s loud and clear. But most times?

It’s faint and easily drowned out by all the "shoulds" of life.

Screw that.

That excitement? That eternal fire?

Let it become your true north...

  • It’s what makes you human.
  • It’s the feeling that you’re on the right path.
  • It’s the reason you innovate, evolve, and truly succeed.

It's the only thing that will matter in the end when you look back at your life.

So, I've made a decision.

I'm going to follow my highest excitement...

Even if it doesn’t lead to a neatly wrapped definition of a “job” or a “business”.

I’ll create not because it adds value in a commercial sense, but because it adds value to my joy.

Because the process of creation itself makes me feel alive, and in turn, inspires others to do the same.

And that’s enough.

That's more than enough.

Freedom that comes from AI automation, scaling, or making money is only a tiny part of the equation.

True freedom? It comes from living in alignment with what brings you absolute pure joy.

So from now on, my compass is that feeling and that feeling alone.

No more crises of meaning.

Just exploration, curiosity, and embracing the experience of being fully alive.

Because, at the end of the day??

The purpose of life is so simple...

It’s to live it.

And that’s exactly what I intend to do.

(P.S Stay tuned for how my personal brand will evolve to match this philosophy in Q1 2025! Lots of exciting new updates coming soon~)

See you next Friday ??

Tying your whole identity to work is not good. I agree William. I have done that in the past. Now I try to have a more wholesome life with bigger life goals and not just work goals.

Hi William Choi - As most people are worried AI will take their job and their company will fire them it's really interesting to find that you did this yourself. I was wondering if you would be interested in discussing in more detail so others might learn more about the human side of being replaced by AI? If you are interested just send me a DM. Thanks Colin
