We can change the world if we had more personal interaction with people who do not look exactly like us. Why? Looking through the eyes of others, in most instances, has a profound effect on the view. Too often, we're segregated in an integrated society! In fact, according to research, Sunday is the most segregated day of the week. But, social media, television, and books, in some instances, have had an impact on bridging the gaps!
As a child, I was full of the joy of reading. Through books, I was able to dream and imagine a world that was so different from the one I lived. Today, we have books that are far more culturally diverse. As educators and parents, it's so important that we do not allow the past misunderstanding to travel into the future through the minds of our children. If we open the windows of our hearts and the blinds of justice, we can create an educational, business, and spiritual environment that is truly reflective of the world of which we should want to be a part.
Books can help us to achieve the dream. So, let's begin to travel the world through reading. If you haven't developed a Summer Reading List, there are some great ones online for all ages. Remember, together everyone achieves more.
