Discovering our root identity
I was born with some of the qualities that I possess now,
Which, of course, have undergone marked changes
All over the years of my growth until where I am today
And those qualities are nothing but the traces
Of what I would have possessed in my earlier lives;
I have no way of protecting myself anytime against
All kinds of influences I am supposed to encounter
Since, some of them are essential for my own survival
And some of them are inevitable for me to accept
While others are imbibed due to my own indulgences;
I am telling all this not as my unique experiences alone
But as my confession to all of you since you are silent,
I am sure it will turn out to be your confession too
Since we are all born and brought up in the same way
Though we may think we are different due to our identities;
Our identities are, no doubt, helpful for us to survive
In the world, which has been understood through identities
For millions of years of our existence and experiencing
And we continue to acquire different identities constantly,
Which are believed to bring us security, comfort and pride;
But, we seem to have failed to notice one important fact
That the identities that we acquire and nourish always
Have created a marked separation among all of us
Since they have driven each one of us into a delusion
That every one of us has possessed a unique identity;
Can each one of us try to understand as deeply as possible
The danger caused by this division and our state of delusion
So that we can put an end to all conflicts and antagonism,
Which are nothing but those qualities being carried forward
From generation after generation commonly with all of us?
If at all there has arisen that understanding of ‘what is’
Then it may be possible for all of us to discard our identities,
Which seem to have only a superficial and fleeting nature,
And discover our root identity which cannot divide anymore
But can end the conflicts of every kind without any trace.
