Discovering New Stories for Our Future

Discovering New Stories for Our Future

Recently, I began to write at Substack under the title of The Future of Leadership with Ed Brenegar. My Substack columns are different from what I wrote in the past.

A paid subscribers essay and discussion is coming soon that looks at the future of leadership at a deeper level. Who are the great leadership theorists of the past half-century? I'm working on a list, and so far, it numbers on one hand. We need a new theoretical basis for leadership. This is especially true as the world of organizations goes through a period of crisis. Hints of this perspective can be found in my The Future is More than Complex.

Over the past week, I have posted four columns that speak to the importance of having a culture of storytelling that not only defines what we want, but provides a basis for creating communities that have a shared story to tell.

All Crises Are Local
Talking With Your Neighbors
The Story We Tell Ourselves: Part One
Stories We Tell Ourselves: Part Two

We live in a time where stories frame our understanding of current events. The story that we individually tell ourselves becomes the life we live before the world. It is important that we have a story that is worthy of honor and gratitude when our lives are done. In the above columns, you will find a new framework for creating the story that you tell yourself.
