Embracing Your Directive Leadership Style

If you answered mostly As in our leadership quiz, you likely have a directive leadership style. You enjoy taking charge and making decisions based on your own expertise and knowledge. While this approach can be effective in certain situations, it's important to ensure that you're still considering input from others and valuing their perspectives.

Here are some tips to build on your existing skills and become an even more effective leader:

  1. Seek out feedback: As a directive leader, you may be less inclined to seek feedback from others. However, it's important to hear different perspectives and understand how your decisions are impacting others. Make it a habit to ask for feedback regularly and really listen to what others have to say.
  2. Practice active listening: While you may feel confident in your own expertise, it's important to make sure that you're actively listening to others on your team. By truly hearing what they have to say, you'll be able to make better decisions and build stronger relationships.
  3. Develop a coaching mindset: As a directive leader, you may be more inclined to simply tell others what to do. However, by developing a coaching mindset, you can empower your team members to grow and develop on their own. Ask questions and provide guidance rather than just giving orders.

Remember, being a directive leader doesn't mean you have to be a dictator. By valuing the input of others and building strong relationships, you can still make strong, effective decisions while empowering your team.

I hope these tips have inspired you to embrace your existing strengths, devote time to daily development, and connect with your colleagues to become a highly respected and influential leader on your healthcare team. I would love to hear from you!

Building on Your Supportive Leadership Style

If you answered mostly Bs in our leadership quiz, you likely have a supportive leadership style. You prefer to work behind the scenes and influence others through collaboration and building relationships. While this approach can be effective in building trust and loyalty, it's important to ensure that you're still stepping up and taking charge when needed.

Here are some tips to build on your existing skills and become an even more effective leader:

  1. Develop your assertiveness: As a supportive leader, you may struggle with being assertive when needed. However, by building your confidence and assertiveness, you can step up and make tough decisions when necessary.
  2. Expand your network: While you may be comfortable building relationships with those on your team, it's important to expand your network and build relationships outside of your immediate sphere of influence. This can help you build influence and expand your impact within your organisation.
  3. Continuously learn and grow: As a supportive leader, you likely enjoy learning and growing. Make sure to continue developing your skills and seeking out new opportunities to learn and grow as a leader.

Remember, being a supportive leader doesn't mean you have to always stay in the background. By building your confidence and expanding your network, you can continue to build strong relationships while also stepping up and making an impact when needed.

I hope these tips have inspired you to embrace your existing strengths, devote time to daily development, and connect with your colleagues to become a highly respected and influential leader on your healthcare team. I would love to hear from you!

Embracing Your Emergent Leadership

If you answered mostly Cs on the quiz, your leadership style is likely emergent. You're someone who prefers to lead by example, empowering others to take ownership of their roles and responsibilities. You value collaboration and creativity, and you enjoy creating a positive team environment where everyone feels heard and valued.

However, while your leadership style can be effective in fostering teamwork and creativity, it's important to remember that you still need to provide guidance and direction when needed. Here are some tips for building on your existing strengths and becoming an even more effective leader:

  1. Lead by example: As an emergent leader, you likely already lead by example. However, it's important to make sure that the behaviours you're modelling align with your team's goals and values. Take time to reflect on your actions and make sure they're in line with the vision you have for your team.
  2. Empower others: One of the key strengths of emergent leaders is their ability to empower others. Continue to encourage your team members to take ownership of their work and provide them with the resources and support they need to succeed.
  3. Practice active listening: While emergent leaders are great at creating a positive team environment, it's important to make sure you're actively listening to your team members. Encourage open and honest communication, and make sure everyone has a chance to share their ideas and perspectives.
  4. Focus on professional development: As an emergent leader, you likely value creativity and innovation. Make sure you're staying up-to-date on industry trends and best practices, and encourage your team members to do the same. Invest in professional development opportunities for yourself and your team to continue growing and improving.

By building on your existing strengths and focusing on self-development and professional growth, you can continue to empower your team and create a positive and productive work environment.

I hope these tips have inspired you to embrace your existing strengths, devote time to daily development, and connect with your colleagues to become a highly respected and influential leader on your healthcare team. I would love to hear from you!
