Discover why 1960s showgirl Mandy Rice-Davies applies to your sales pitch

The Profumo Affair of 1963 may well be a salacious footnote in political history, but one of the stars of the saga, Mandy Rice Davies, has given rise to an acronym that should convince you why you need case studies.

To quickly recap this scandal involved the Secretary of State for War, John Profumo lying to Parliament over a brief affair with model Christine Keeler, who was also rumoured to have been simultaneously involved with a Russian naval attaché, creating a national security risk.

The uproar culminated in the trial of Stephen Ward, who was charged with living off the immoral earnings of Christine Keeler and Mandy Rice-Davies and while giving evidence the latter uttered the immortal line: ‘He would, wouldn’t he,’ when the prosecution pointed out Lord Astor denied having an affair with her, or even meeting her. Ward saw himself as a scapegoat and took a fatal overdose during the final stages of the trial.

While 1963 may have been a long time ago, what Mandy Rice-Davies said has entered the popular lexicon and while often misquoted, it has come to mean speaking with an ulterior motive, or to hide the truth.

Now, you have every reason to represent a version of the truth and when it comes to singing the praises of your own business the reality is many people will dismiss your counsel and MRDA – because they will deem: to misquote Mandy Rice Davies: ‘well, he would say that, wouldn’t he.’ Obviously, you want to put your business in the best possible light!

So, all that sales material on your website or that you send out to customers will be subject to that ‘MRDA’ reaction – unless you embrace case studies, with their honesty and first person account by your clients, rather than what you want to say.

The creation of hundreds of case studies and the impact they have in helping our clients attract new clients of their own has taught us that people more readily believe personal, attributable and candid case studies over and above the sales pitch that most other collateral will be.

So, avoid you own scandal in poor sales performance and get using case studies today!
