Amazon Spends Money To Make Money

Amazon increased its promotion and ad spend by 22% year-over-year to more than $20 billion in 2022, and has now roughly doubled its ad budgets from 2020, according to?Ad Age?data. There was a rare drop-off in its ad spend in 2020 due to high ecommerce demand during quarantine, which allowed Amazon to ease up on paid media.

Amazon Beats on Q4 Revenue but Provides Light Guidance

Amazon?reported?fourth-quarter sales on Thursday that beat analysts’ estimates. The e-retailer said revenue in the first quarter will be $121 billion to $126 billion. Analysts were expecting $125.1 billion, according to Refinitiv. Amazon Web Services?reported?20% sales growth, which was short of expectations. Read Article.


Women-founded startups raised 1.9% of all VC funds in 2022, a drop from 2021

Last year, U.S. startups with all-women teams received 1.9% (or around $4.5 billion) out of around the $238.3 billion in venture capital allocated, according to the latest PitchBook data. That percentage is a notable drop from the 2.4% all-women teams raised in 2021. The decline was expected, given the economic climate of last year: the bear, the bust, the winter. In fact, aside from 2016, the last time all-women-led startups raised such a low percentage of funds was in 2012, another period of funding decline caused by economic uncertainty and an election.
