Meet the Team

Edward J. Carbone

Ed Carbone is a Member of the firm’s Tampa, Florida office. Mr. Carbone focuses his practice in the areas of medical malpractice defense, healthcare law, and insurance defense litigation. In his 25-year career, he has represented all types of healthcare facilities and providers, including hospitals, physicians, nurses, behavioral health organizations, hospices, and long-term care facilities.

As a litigator, Mr. Carbone has helped his clients resolve countless disputes through litigation and arbitration. He has taken numerous cases to trial and has handled appeals in both state and federal appellate courts. Though he has handled matters involving all aspects of healthcare, he has particular experience handling obstetrical injury claims, including disputes over the application of Florida’s Neurological Injury Compensation Association (NICA).

Mark B. Hartig

Mark Hartig is a Member of the firm’s Tampa, Florida office. Mr. Hartig focuses his practice on the defense of hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, and other long-term care facilities, as well as professional liability matters including the defense of child welfare agencies and adoption service providers, among other industries. A frequent speaker for corporate clients regarding minimizing risk and litigation strategies, he also serves as an arbitrator for legal colleagues in matters referred to as alternative dispute resolution.

Prior to joining Burns White, Mr. Hartig was a founding member and Managing Shareholder of the law firm McCumber Daniels. Prior to founding McCumber Daniels, he served as an Assistant State Attorney in Florida.

Kyleen A. Hinkle

Kyleen Hinkle is a Member of the firm’s Tampa, Florida office. Ms. Hinkle is a civil litigator practicing in the areas of general liability, long-term health care defense, hospital liability, and medical malpractice defense.

An advocate for women, Ms. Hinkle has been named a Leader in the Law by the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL). She is a past president of both the Pinellas Chapter of Florida Association for Women Lawyers and FAWL, a statewide organization. She remains involved in both the local and state bar organizations. Ms. Hinkle also serves on the board for the National Conference of Women Bar Associations, the Florida Bar's standing committee on Diversity and Inclusion, the Florida Bar's Voluntary Bar Liaison Committee, and the Florida Bar's Annual Convention Committee.

Jillian M. Goldman

Jillian Goldman is an Associate in the firm’s Tampa, Florida office. Ms. Goldman focuses her practice in the areas of medical malpractice defense, long-term health care defense, hospital liability, personal injury defense, and premises liability defense.

Prior to joining Burns White, Ms. Goldman was a Law Clerk at an insurance defense firm where she assisted in matters related to personal injury claims.

Melissa L. Howell

Melissa Howell is an Associate in the firm’s Tampa, Florida office. Ms. Howell focuses her practice in the areas of medical malpractice defense, long-term health care defense, hospital liability, personal injury defense, and premises liability defense.

Prior to joining Burns White, Ms. Howell was an attorney at a Tampa firm, where she represented clients in matters related to nursing home defense. In addition, she has experience in matters related to property insurance.

Albert M. Rodriguez

Albert Rodriguez is a Member in the firm’s Tampa, Florida office. Mr. Rodriguez focuses his practice in the areas of medical malpractice defense, long-term health care defense, hospital liability, personal injury defense, and premises liability defense.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Rodriguez was a partner at a large, national insurance defense firm where he focused his practice in the areas of general personal injury defense, premises liability defense, and first-party insurance defense. Mr. Rodriguez previously served as an assistant state attorney for the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office.
