Discover the Latest Technical Showcases in FEM-Design
Hello and welcome back to “The Structural Edge” newsletter. In this edition, we’re highlighting the transparency feature in 3D Bridge, how to use the plastic shell feature in FEM-Design 23 for steel joint analysis, upcoming training sessions, and a cool use case from our FEM-Design API. ?
Transparency feature in 3D Bridge
We are happy to introduce our new Bridge module for FEM-Design. Our main goals with this module have been to implement a powerful way of handling traffic load patterns and keep transparency and traceability in the software. The idea is to have a clear way of identifying the load position that gives each individual result. We have done this by implementing a visualisation for each load position that is dynamic and updates when you move the mouse cursor. Want to learn more? Check out our brand-new step-by-step video guide on how to get started with the module and the module webpage.

Plastic shell feature in FEM-Design 23 for steel joint analysis
The new Plastic shell feature introduced in FEM-Design 23 gives new possibilities for steel joint analysis in FEM-Design. By having a non-linear material model for steel, which also includes limit strains, you will be able to analyse and find out if your steel joint can carry the applied load without developing a failure mechanism. Since limit strains are included in the material model, you will also have the possibility to check the ductility of the steel joint. We have made some examples of parametric models in Grasshopper for two different joint types. You can read more here! ??
