Police officers are often blamed when sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) cases do not result in criminal convictions. Results from a study titled ‘Survivors’ perceptions of the efficacy of the Criminal Justice System (CJS) in South Africa for adults and children affected by SGBV’ completed by Childline Gauteng and independent researcher Dr. M. Weideman in December 2021 suggest that where SGBV against adults and children is concerned, a more nuanced understanding of the police’s role in the CJS is required.
A total of 66 countries are now facing at least one severe ecological threat and 30 “hotspot” countries are classified as extremely vulnerable, according to the 2023 Ecological Threat Report . The document, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) on November 1, 2023, also pinpointed that 19 of the “hotspot” countries are in sub-Saharan Africa, with Ethiopia, Niger, Somalia, and South Sudan topping the list of at-risk countries. Only Europe and North America were classified as not being at risk for ecological threats.

Women, particularly women of color, are still underrepresented in senior positions in the USA and Canada, according to a report from McKinsey in partnership with LeanIn. The report, Women in the Workplace 2023 , studied the role of women in corporate America by analyzing 27,000 employees and 270 senior HR leaders across 276 organizations. The report reveals that women still regularly face bias in the workplace and are exposed to micro-aggression while carrying out their work responsibilities.
