Early last year (2021), we asked ourselves how we could not only support the company's growth, but also scale it. With offices and teams spread across the globe, we needed to find a solution that would work on an international scale.
Some of the challenges we were trying to solve were:
To respond to these challenges, we created a special team focused on our technical pre-sales activities. This is a group of experts who enhance the technical quality of our customer engagements. Within the team, there are a variety of roles, each working on different areas, but when you put them together, they make a whole, like a jigsaw puzzle of an abstract piece of art where you cannot see how they fit together until it's finished.
What is Pre-Sales?
In modern B2B negotiations, customers want access to a product earlier. They want to talk to product experts before they even engage with sales. To enable this most B2B companies establish a Solutions Organization, otherwise known as Pre-Sales.
Pre-sales activities begin as soon as the potential customer is identified. The team performs a series of specific activities that lead to qualification, present product demonstrations, and help sales win and expand business. It is the technical side of sales; the team is responsible for demonstrating the technical aspects and business benefits of the product. The Pre-Sales Solution Expert/Architect engages with customer in these early stages and passes on the know-how to a Customer Solution Expert/Architect who focuses on the project execution.
It's a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Externally, the team works with customers and is responsible for organizing workshops. This requires coordination and preparation, so good networking and organizational skills are required. Internally, the team interacts with system architects, executives, and department managers to understand the technical details of our products and solutions. They also need to coordinate activities with Product Management, Sales, Management, etc.
Our Solution Engineers/Architects support product demonstrations and presentations to customers as well as organizing and leading technical workings on architecture and technology.
Our Technical Bid Managers focus on coordinating technical meetings with customers, project management, requirements analysis, and creating technical documents that support our offering and highlight our solution approach.

To ensure clear and consistent communication, the global team meets regularly to discuss the technical details of their joint work, lessons learned, and to share best practices. These discussions can range from talking about innovative technologies like DDS to container orchestration
