The new GenAI hype: GPT2 chatbot beats ChatGPT, Claude and dudes. Who's behind it?
The world of artificial intelligence is once again in excitement mode, and this time it's all about the mysterious GPT2 chatbot. This new model is causing a stir, not only because of its remarkable performance, but also because of the mysteries it raises: Who actually developed this groundbreaking AI?
In the current AI landscape, where every new model attracts attention, the attention that the GPT2 chatbot is attracting is extraordinary. Experts are impressed and confused in equal measure, as this chatbot delivers results that dwarf many of its competitors - and with a big question mark over the identity of its creators.
Wondering what's so special about this chatbot?
Well, let us give you some examples. Reddit users have challenged the GPT2 chatbot to count the number of letters in a given message. While other models such as GPT4, Llama 3, Claude 3 and Mistral Large failed, the GPT2 chatbot delivered the correct result of 40.
Even more impressive are the tests conducted by AI researcher Andrew Gao from Stanford University. He set the GPT2 chatbot a task from the International Math Olympiad - a task that he himself described as “insanely difficult”. And what happened? The chatbot solved it on the first attempt.
The GPT2 chatbot also excelled at creating a unicorn with ASCII characters, a tricky programming task. These are just a few examples of its extraordinary performance.
But who created this thing?
That is the big question that keeps the experts busy. Some suspect that it could be a secret version of OpenAI's ChatGPT 4.5 or 5. If you ask the chatbot who created it, it answers “OpenAI”. (...) But this could also be a deception - other AI models trained by OpenAI could give the same answer. (...)
However, there are also signs of links to OpenAI, particularly through some mistakes that the GPT2 chatbot makes that are similar to those of ChatGPT 4.
Another theory is that it is an AI from a smaller or previously unknown team that wants to compete with OpenAI.
So far, no one has officially announced GPT2-Chatbot. The operators of Chatbot Arena have emphasized that they are working with several AI teams who are making their preview models available for users to test.
Unlocking the Enigma: The Resurgence of 'im-a-good-gpt2-chatbot
But recently, there has been a surprising development in the world of the AI chatbot again. The enigmatic entity known as "GPT2-chatbot," which vanished from the popular language model benchmarking site LMSYS Org just a week ago, has resurfaced under mysterious circumstances.
What's more intriguing is that not only has the original chatbot returned, but it has brought along two new companions: "im-a-good-gpt2-chatbot" and "im-also-a-good-gpt2-chatbot." These fresh iterations showcase remarkable capabilities, matching or even exceeding those of GPT-4, particularly in tackling complex problems that have stumped other models. This hints at a potential leap forward in specialized analytical tasks.
Excitingly, these chatbots are now exclusively available in 'battle mode' at the Chatbot Arena on the LMSYS Org website. Again users can engage with them by activating battle mode, inputting prompts, and observing the models' responses.
Dive in!
If you would like to try out the GPT2 chatbot for yourself, visit the Chatbot Arena website and click on “Direct Chat”. Perhaps you can find out for yourself who is behind this mysterious chatbot.
Adding to the intrigue, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, dropped a cryptic hint on X, former Twitter, just a day before these models went live, referencing "im-a-good-gpt2-chatbot." Many are speculating that this points towards OpenAI's A/B testing of these innovative models.
Despite Altman's earlier claims that the gpt2-chatbot wasn't GPT 4.5, evidence suggests it's actually a disguised OpenAI model. The next release might not be labeled as 4.5, allowing Altman to avoid falsehoods, but clearly, a significant development is unfolding with this potent, enigmatic model.
The reappearance of "im-a-good-gpt2-chatbot" and its cohorts has ignited fresh excitement in the AI community, sparking discussions about the future of language models and their potential applications. As these chatbots continue to evolve and engage in battle mode, it's clear that we are on the brink of a new era in GenAI capabilities.
Please make it public!
We look forward to further developments in the fascinating world of artificial intelligence.
Adobe's GenAI Push: A Challenge for Photographers' Creative Futures
In the world of photography, where creativity and human skill have long been cherished, a new wave of technology is stirring up both excitement and concern. Adobe, a titan in the creative software industry, has once again turned heads with its latest GenAI endeavor, Adobe Firefly 3-model. However, this time around, the reaction from photographers and visual artists has been mixed, if not outright critical. You can find a huge number of creators on YouTube and other social media channels expressing their concerns.
At the heart of the controversy is Adobe's growing emphasis on AI-driven content creation, exemplified by its Firefly program. This shift, though hailed as innovative by some, has left many photographers feeling uneasy about the future of their craft.
One of the most contentious points arose from an Adobe advertisement encouraging the idea of "skipping the photoshoot" thanks to AI capabilities. For many photographers, this message struck a chord of devaluation, as if their artistry and expertise were being sidelined by algorithms. Without a doubt, product photographers and fashion photographers will be immediately affected by such a trend. Not to mention the question of whether human models are still necessary at all ... . But that's another story entirely.
The core issue here is not just about technological advancement but also about the implications it holds for professional photographers. By placing such a strong emphasis on AI-driven solutions, Adobe risks alienating the very community it has long relied upon for its success.
The concerns are not merely about hurt feelings; they're about the future of professional photography itself. As AI technologies continue to advance, questions arise regarding the ongoing viability of human-led artistic expression in the field. Will professional photographers find themselves sidelined by algorithms that promise faster and cheaper alternatives?
Moreover, there are broader ethical considerations at play. Despite assurances of ethical AI development, the impact on photographers and visual artists' livelihoods remains a pressing issue.
Can GenAI truly replicate the creative insight and nuanced perspective that human photographers bring to their work?
This isn't just a debate about technology
It's about corporate priorities versus creative integrity. Adobe's pivot towards AI-driven content creation begs the question: where do the interests of the company end and the needs of artists begin?
The tension between advancing technology and maintaining respect for human creativity is palpable. The discourse surrounding Adobe's AI initiatives underscores a broader conversation within the creative industries about the responsible integration of AI and its implications for human-led artistic expression.
In this evolving landscape, it's vital to strike a balance that harnesses the power of technology while preserving the essence of artistic endeavor. As Adobe navigates this complex terrain, photographers and visual artists are watching closely, hoping that the promise of AI innovation doesn't come at the expense of their craft.
The road ahead is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the future of professional photography will be shaped not just by technological advancements but by how we choose to embrace them responsibly, ensuring that creativity remains at the heart of the image-making process.

Dot-com bubble is back?
The article from Business Insider called our attention, discussing the current excitement in the stock market regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and draws parallels to the dot-com bubble of the early 2000s. Resuming it in some bullet points:
The overall tone of the article suggests caution, as the excitement around AI could lead to overvaluation and a potential market correction, similar to what happened after the dot-com bubble. However, the enthusiasm for AI’s potential continues to drive investor interest and market growth. We could clearly hear and feel something similar at SXSW2024 in Austin. Investors in GenAI technology start-ups in particular are extremely concerned about the gigantic investment sums that are being called for.
One comparison could be heard again and again: Take your child to the zoo and show him a zebra. You will probably have to walk past the zebra enclosure again, but after that your child will have understood what a zebra is and what it looks like. How many millions of photos do you have to feed into a GenAI for the damn guy to understand what a zebra is?
GenAI Growth Sparks Natural Gas Demand: Implications for Energy Market and Sustainability - is that a new concern?
Electricity Demand Surge
The rise of AI is expected to significantly increase electricity demand. With AI data centers alone projected to add about 323 terawatt hours of electricity demand in the U.S. by 2030, this represents a substantial increase compared to current consumption levels.
Natural Gas as a Solution
As renewable energy sources like solar and wind are dependent on variable weather conditions, they may not always be able to meet the high and consistent energy demands of AI data centers. Natural gas is being considered as a reliable alternative to fill the gap during periods when renewable sources fall short.
Market Implications
The anticipated increase in electricity demand could lead to a boom in the natural gas industry, as power companies may turn to this resource to ensure a stable energy supply. This could have significant implications for energy markets, pricing, and infrastructure development.
Environmental Considerations
While natural gas is cleaner than coal, it is still a fossil fuel that emits greenhouse gases. The reliance on natural gas to meet AI’s energy needs could pose challenges to achieving carbon neutrality goals. Companies are likely to face pressure to balance energy reliability with environmental sustainability.

Google launches Gemini extensions
Google recently unveiled its new AI platform called Gemini, which has been hailed as a challenger to GPT-4. This platform is now being integrated into Google apps via so-called Gemini extensions, similar to Microsoft's Copilot with Office applications. We at iMBdigital.Gallery_ as well as our buddies at iMB.Solutions are already using this extension and we are using it extensively in the Google Workspace ecosystem. The integration is really great!
Road trip in the southern belt
With user consent, Gemini can access apps such as Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and the Workspace world to deliver relevant information directly into chats. For example, Gemini could plan a trip based on an email discussion with friends, including flight and hotel information as well as YouTube videos with excursion tips. We used this very intensively during our trip to Austin, Texas, for SXSW2024, for example, as a road trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to the University of New Mexico (NM) and The Robert O. Anderson Management School was also on the agenda.
One of the most interesting features is the ability to summarize emails and create replies based on the content. Gemini can also search documents, summarize thoughts and suggest possible next steps in emails to colleagues. We have also been using has very intensively at iMBdigital.Gallery_ and iMB.Solutions since almost day one.
Learning and unlearning - you get powerful help here
For students, as well as for us in project missions of all kinds, Gemini offers the opportunity to summarize YouTube content or explain topics in simple terms. It can also help with event planning by searching for locations and exporting the planning status to emails or Google Docs.
Data protection is well regulated
Google emphasizes that Gemini shortcuts can be deactivated at any time in the privacy settings. This is almost as easy as unsubscribing from a newsletter with one click. Chrome users can quickly access the AI platform by entering “@gemini” and a prompt to get answers. Incidentally, this function has made us use Chrome more and more. In the OpenSea.io and blockchain ecosystem, we do that 100% anyway.
NFT Drop & Minted
In the first days of May, we launched the NFT collection Fluid Urbanity. As usual, this collection was also minted in the Ethereum blockchain and will be marketed via OpenSea.io.
