Why are cultural stories so important?

Research shows that children achieve more when they begin their learning journey reading stories that reflect the lived experiences of their community and history.

Each of these authentic collections from our cultural library contains ten stories focussing on connection to the world around us, engaging children to become life-long learners.

Art and Craft

Our new range of FSC-certified wooden Indigenous stamps are a wonderful tactile resource. The Indigenous symbols and animal tracks are designed in collaboration with First Nations artist Mirii Designs on Anaiwan country in NSW Australia.

Let's talk multicultural stamps! Why we love them in learning spaces:

Stamps make incredible painting accessories, can be used as a tool, as part of exploratory play, as well as for shape, colour and pattern discover. There are three sets in our new cultural showcase, all with six stamps in each set.

These stamps have been created in the perfect size for little hands, and are both chunky and easy to hold, helping children develop their fine motor skills

Lean into clean!

The artist:

When little ones want to indulge in messy play, we want to make sure their smocks are comfortable to wear and can be quickly wiped down after use. That's why we love this cultural resource, which combines practicality and cultural knowledge for the littlest artists (1-3 years) and older children (3-6) years.

How do MTA's cultural resources support educators?

These resources illustrate stronger focus on embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into both the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum.

  1. Supporting the new EYLF V2.0 The new EYLF V2.0 has been updated to include the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of being, knowing and doing, and inclusion. A new principle on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives emphasises the importance of respectfully and truthfully reflecting the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This is achieved through community involvement and culturally sensitive practices.
  2. Supporting the school curriculum Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures are embedded into the new curriculum as a ‘cross-curriculum priority’. In short that means incorporating it through content and enriching learning in the most authentic way! Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures is incorporated through content to deepen students’ understanding of First Nations Australian histories and cultures.?
