Our Research and Innovation Services team, with colleagues from Cardiff Met’s School of Technologies, showcased their work at Wales Tech Week last October. The event unveiled the Innovate UK Collaborative Innovation Plan for Wales, a joint report by Welsh Government and Innovate UK aimed at fostering a culture of innovation in Wales.?
As a commitment to exploiting innovation opportunities, Innovate UK KTN and Welsh Government have worked in collaboration and connected over 4,000 individuals with events and organisations within Wales in 2022 -23. As part of their portfolio, Innovate UK KTN provides on-the-ground local support, jointly funded with Welsh Government, for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP). The KTP programme facilitates connections between businesses with innovative ideas and research-based expertise, co-creating projects that enhance competitiveness, productivity, and performance through the strategic use of knowledge, technology, and skills.?
Recently, Welsh Government announced the extension, until March 2025, of its enhanced contribution of 75% towards the total costs of KTP projects for eligible Welsh SMEs. This reduces the usual business contribution to 25%. This reduction in cost to the business aims to encourage more businesses to participate in the KTP programme, which has seen 144 projects launched in Wales since 2010.?

What is a KTP??
The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme, running for nearly 50 years, is one of the UK's leading funded initiatives that helps businesses utilise the expertise and resources available within universities. KTPs develop a beneficial partnership between a company, university, and a graduate (Associate) who work together on a strategic project to address a knowledge gap that the company has which can be filled using University knowledge and expertise.?
